The Role: Rachel Green
Rachel is the typical poor little rich girl and till start of a series, had never had a job- daddy darling paying for everything. Her life was pretty much carved out- she was going to marry suitably rich and eligible bachelor Barry and live the wealthy ever after life. But suddenly she couldn’t handle the pointlessness of her life and fled, leaving helpless Barry at the altar. Voila! The original runaway bride.
All her friends were from the same back ground, so she had no where to go except to Monica. The only friend she hadn’t invited to the wedding- basically because they weren’t exactly friends.
Rachel is the attitudey one of the friends, sometimes bitchy and pretty spoilt. Its taken her a while to get the hang of living on her own, getting a job as a waitress, doing her own chores- hell, it took Ross to teach her how to do her laundry.
Rachel has dated many guys, much to Ross’s dismay. Ross has had a crush on her forever. Throughout the show they have a sometimes on, sometimes off relationship, largely because when one decides they’re willing, the other one is already in a relationship.
Rachel’s mom (who has married her Barry) totally envies her free life and finally gathers enough courage to chuck up her marriage in search of freedom.
The Gal: Jennifer Aniston
If Mathew Perry was king of unreleased show, Jennifer Aniston has a better title – Queen Of The Flop Show. At least no one could blame the unreleased disaster on Perry!
But you just cant keep a good thing down, and what better proof? Aniston emerged as “ the sexy friend”, got more Hollywood offers than her other five cast mates, and has Brad Pitt as a loving husband. Obviously, life is being good to her.
Things didn’t come easy. Though both her parents were in showbiz – father John was a regular on the soap Days Of Our Lives, and mother Nancy was a model and actress- Aniston had to struggle to break into big time.
It finally worked when she shed 30 pounds on her agents advice- she found work on many TV shows like Ferris Bueller, Molloy, The Edge and Muddling Through all which died without a whimper.
It was when she landed the role of Rachel Green in Friends that she achieved stardom, and become arguably the first star in history whose hairstyle’s popularity exceeds hers. The ‘Rachel’ cut became a rage, even though Aniston personally thought it looked terrible on her!
Just in case things hadn’t worked out, Aniston had an alternative career lined up- she was pretty talented artist! In fact, one of her paintings was displayed in NY’s Metropolitan Museum of Art when she was 11.
She was also interested in psychology and even enrolled in a course. “ I like to talk to people,” she said in an interview, “and I like to talk to me,” of course once her acting career took off, psychology never had a chance.
And taken off she certainly has, she has starred in Till There Was You, She’s The One, Picture Perfect, and the critically acclaimed, The Object Of My Affection , where she plays a social worker who falls in love with her gay roommate. She is at present starring in a movie called RockStar.
Today Aniston seems to have things pretty good- especially having a husband like Brad Pitt. Aniston and other castmates are being paid US$ 750, 000 per episode in the new season.

Aniston’s famous Rachel hairdo was created by accident when hair buddy Chris cut her hair with a razor.
The drama school Aniston attended, the NY High School For Performing Arts, was the inspiration for the play Fame.
