Laura walked into her house after being at the hospital half the
night. Monica checked on Luke's progress and was optimistic about
the heart transplant. Laura wanted to stay with Luke through the
night, but Monica insisted that she go home and get some rest. So,
Laura agreed, knowing that she did have to come home eventually and explain
what happened. She didn't even realize while she was at the hospital
that no one knew where she was or what had happened to Luke.
Laura placed her keys on the table and took a seat on the couch. There was a picture of her and Luke on the table behind the couch, and she picked it up and held it close to her heart. How she wished for them to be happy again. She knew she couldn't live without Luke in her life. She wouldn't die because she had her children who needed her, but she knew she wouldn't be whole without Luke.
Lesley came downstairs to see her daughter sitting on the couch, tears in her eyes.
Les: What's wrong, Laura?
Laura: Oh, Mom. Just memories.
Les: Of Luke?
Laura: Of us together. See this picture? It was one of the first pictures we took together after moving into this house. We were so happy then, despite all the danger we faced. I want that happiness again.
Les: You'll have it again.
Laura: I'm not so sure about that.
Les: Why? Where's Luke?
Laura: He's in the hospital again. He had a heart attack and needed a heart transplant. He's going to be okay, but I'm not sure about us. He's just so determined to throw away everything we ever had because Lucky found out about one dark moment in our past.
Les: You're going to have to stay patient, Laura. And have faith.
Laura: Faith and patience can only go so far. Luke needs to want to work this out also. It can't just be me, otherwise we'll be going around in circles instead of moving forward.
Les: Laura, do you love him... truly love him, no matter what he does?
Laura: Of course I do. You know that.
Les: Does he feel the same?
Laura: Yes. Why are you asking this?
Les: Then trust in that love. Trust that your love for one another is stronger than anything else in the world, and you'll find the strength you need to help you through this.
Laura: Thank you (Laura gives Les a hug)
Luke's Club... Sonny is sitting at the bar when Mike walks in.
Mike: Did you hear any word on Luke?
Sonny: He's going to make it. He got a new heart.
Mike: What exactly happened?
Sonny: I'm not sure on the details. I mean, Laura walked into his office and the next thing I knew, she screamed for help. I ran in there and tried to wake Luke, but nothing was waking this man. So we called 911. He had a heart attack at the hospital and needed a new heart so they gave him one. That's about all I know.
Mike: A guy as healthy as he is shouldn't need a new heart.
Sonny: Well, with what he's been through. Well, let's just say that I'm surprised he even survived the surgery... either one of them.
Mike: He does seem to be spending more time in the hospital lately, than out.
Sonny: I bet that will change after this. I doubt Laura will let him do anything else to endanger his life.
Mike: How is Laura handling it all?
Sonny: I don't know. I've been meaning to call, but it doesn't feel right. I rather just wait for Luke to get home and hear it from his own mouth.
Lucky couldn't sleep after thinking about what he could have said differently during his conversation with his father to prevent his father from leaving. He got up out of bed and headed downstairs for a glass of water. He overheard his mother and grandmother talking about Luke being in the hospital. 'Oh, no, what have I done?' he thought. He put on his clothes and snuck out his window to go to the hospital to make sure for himself that his father was alright. He wouldn't forgive himself if his father died because they had an argument.
Luke heard the door open to his room and opened his eyes. He saw the one person he never expected to see... his son.
