Lucky closed the door behind him and stood against it, not wanting
to get too close to his father. Luke saw that Lucky wasn't comfortable
with being in the same room with him.
Luke: Hi.
Lucky: Hi.
Luke: Hey, Lucky, if you don't want to be here, then no one's stopping you from leaving.
Lucky: Is that what you want?
Luke: Of course not, but it isn't my choice to make.
Lucky: You seem to want everyone you love to just leave your life right now.
Luke: What do you mean by that?
Lucky: I overheard Mom and Grandma talking. That's how I found out you were here.
Luke: So she hasn't gotten around to telling everyone yet.
Lucky: She also said that she wants what you two once had.
Luke: I don't know if that's possible.
Lucky: She's willing to try, but it's obvious that you're not.
Luke: So you want us back together again? Happily? I thought you wanted me out of the house and out of your life.
Lucky: What I may want doesn't make it the right choice for the rest of the family.
Luke: So I guess your opinion of me hasn't changed.
Lucky: It's changed a lot. I never thought that my father, the man that I admired and wanted to be like, was capable of such a horrible act as rape. Yes, it's changed.
Luke: So all I'll be to you is a rapist.
Lucky: Now that I know the truth, I can't look up to you the way I once did. I won't try to fool you by saying maybe I can get over it. That won't happen.
Luke: So why are you here? Why do you want to talk to just a rapist?
Lucky: Is this what Mom has to put up with any time she visits you? Is this why she said she didn't know if you two can ever get back together?
Luke: What did she exactly say?
Lucky: In short... that she couldn't fight for this marriage all by herself. That you need to fight for it too.
Luke: And you think I'm not.
Lucky: I know you're not, Dad! If you were, you wouldn't be pushing everyone away.
Luke: What do you want from me, Lucky? Do you want me to beg? Obviously, our relationship is ruined because you found out about something I did years before you were born. What am I supposed to do? Apologize to you every day for the rest of my life? You weren't there. This didn't happen to you. And sorry if I'm not the kind of man who gets down on his hands and knees and begs for forgiveness.
Lucky: I'm not asking you to beg. I don't want that. And this isn't about me. This is about Mom and Lulu. Remember them? They need you more than anyone. While I may be disgusted with what you did to my Mom, for some unexplainable reason, she still loves you. And I can't just ignore that either. And then there's Lulu. She needs a father in her life.
Luke: I'm surprised you even want that father to be me.
Lucky: I can't change paternity results. You're her father, just like you're mine. I am not so far gone in my anger to realize that you and Mom do have some special kind of love that only two people can find with each other. Whether I question how the two of you even got past something like rape, I can't question that you two did and did fall in love. I'm not forgetful. I know that the only reason Lulu and I are even alive is because you do love each other. And Lulu needs to witness that love.
Luke: Is there anything more you would like to lecture me about?
Lucky: I think I said what I came here to say. All you need to do now is listen.
Lucky turns back and leaves Luke's room. "I got to say everything I came to say except I love you." Lucky collapses onto the ground and buries his head in his hands, trying to hide his tears from anyone that may pass by.
