Chapter 23

It has been one week since the paternity came out.  Nikolas was living with Alexis at the moment, believing she was the only person he could trust.  She had told him the reason of why she was kicked out of the family and Nikolas had to laugh.  He was glad someone managed to get the better of Stefan, even if it didn't last long.  They had come to an understanding that there would be no secrets that pertained to one another kept between them.  Since Alexis' schedule was pretty busy as of late, she wasn't around very much, which gave Nikolas the privacy that he needed.

Lucky walked around the house with no emotion whatsoever.  He avoided looking at Laura when he would run into her, but most of the time, he made sure he wasn't in the same room as her.  He had spent a lot of time on his own, taking long walks in the park.  He had considered leaving Port Charles if it weren't for his father and sister.  They weren't to blame for this and he just couldn't imagine not being a part of their lives.

Stefan sat around Wyndemere all day, waiting for the opportunity to get the Spencers back for all the pain they had caused his son.  He knew that Luke had Jason place a couple of men on him, but he didn't care.  When the time was right for revenge, no amount of men would be able to stop him.

Luke and Laura barely said anything to each other for the whole week.  Luke stayed in the house most of the day, but whenever Laura would come into the room, he would conveniently have something better to do.  Laura tried to get him to talk a few times, but nothing seemed to work.  And any time she would push him too far, he would walk out of the house, only later to be found on the front porch, completely drunk.

Lesley tried her best to hold everyone together.  She knew that Lulu could feel the tension between everyone, and Lesley tried to calm her down.  She was worried that if this continued for much longer, the Spencer family might never find their way back to each other.

Luke came home late from being at the club and was prepared to go to sleep.  He walked over to the couch only to notice that his blanket and pillow were not out like he left it earlier.  He looked in the closet, and they weren't there either.  He figured Laura probably brought it upstairs so he would have to talk to her to be able to sleep as comfortably as he could, sleeping on the couch.  He was tired of games and got angry while he went upstairs to get his stuff.

Laura heard Luke coming up the stairs and knew she only had a few seconds to hide her stuff.  She was tired of trying to talk to Luke and reason with him.  She was ready to take action and plan A was already set.  She had taken some of her perfume, Luke's favorite, and spread a couple of drops on his pillow.  If this didn't remind him a little of what he was missing by not sleeping in their bed, then nothing will.

Luke stormed into the room and slammed the door.

Laura:  You could be a little more quiet.  There is a 3 year old just down the hall.

Luke:  Just give me my stuff and I'll go back downstairs to my couch.

Laura:  Why don't you just stay up here in our bed?

Luke:  You know why.

Laura:  No, I don't, Luke.  I don't know why you suddenly can't stand to look at me, let alone be with me.  Do you think that just because I had slept with Stefan once in the past, that I have loved you any less or that I wanted to be with you any less?

Luke:  Just once?

Laura:  You know what I mean.

Luke:  How am I supposed to know what you mean anymore?  Everything I seem to assume, like the fact that Nikolas being Stavros' son and not Count Vlad's, seems to turn out wrong anyway.   I'm tired and need some sleep, so if you would be kind enough to give me my pillow and blanket, I'll get out of your way.

Laura:  Not until I say this and you listen.

Luke:  What is it?

Laura:  I love you, Luke.  I always have and always will.  I know you love me too.

Luke:  Love was never the question here, Baby, trust is.  I don't know if I can ever trust you again.

Luke tried to sleep that night, but every time he would close his eyes, memories of Laura would flood his mind.  The first time he saw her, Beechers Corners, their wedding, and more importantly, their honeymoon, all the places across the world they had been to, every great moment was coming to him.  The image was so clear and vivid that he could have sworn she was with him at that moment.  He saw that light in her eyes, smelled the perfume he loved on her, felt her skin against his.

Luke woke up and tried to get the images out of his mind.  They were driving him completely nuts because he did love Laura with all his heart.  He tried to walk around and get every single image of his dream out of his head, but he couldn't.  The smell of her perfume was as strong as ever, making him ache for her so much more.

The more and more he thought about her, the closer and closer he was getting to their bedroom.  He didn't even realize he was headed there.  It was as if his legs had a mind of their own.  He tried to stop the urge to go inside and see her sleeping, but he couldn't.  He quietly opened the door to see a laying Laura, who looked like an angel when she slept.

Laura heard the door open and pretended to be asleep.  She used all of her strength to not smile.  She knew that this plan would work.  All she had to do now was pretend she had no idea what was causing him to think of her more.

Luke looked at her more and brought his hand down to her hair and touched it.  It was so soft and like her skin.  Everything about her was soft, the softest he had ever seen or felt.  Without knowing it, he bent down and kissed her.

Laura knew when he had touched her hair, that she had to hold back until the time was right.  As soon as she could feel his lips on hers, she woke up and kissed him back.  Their kiss lasted so long, as if they hadn't kissed in ages and like it would be their last.  Their hearts joined as well as their souls.  Both were wrapped up in the passion of the moment and didn't think about all the problems they were having.  It was as if nothing and no one existed outside of their bed.  They continued their kiss as Luke slipped under the covers with Laura, where he would spend the rest of the night.
