FIRST SCENES: Rick was looking for Phillip at Cedar's Hospital. The next day, Phillip stopped by to see Rick at the Bauers. Rick was making himself breakfast and Phillip told Rick he could have his spot as an orderly at Cedars. In 1995, Rick was welcomed back to the Bauer house by his elated father, Ed.
LAST SCENES: In 1991, Rick moved to Chicago to perform community service, his penalty for helping best friend Phillip fake his death. The Bauers threw Rick a goodbye party, attended by all his family and friends. The last scene showed Rick holding goddaughter Lizzie in his arms.
FAMILY:
Rick's parents are Ed Bauer and Leslie Jackson. They got divorced shortly after his birth. Growing up, he formed a close bond with his paternal grandmother, Bert Bauer. As a teen, he went to Lincoln Prep and became best friends with Phillip.
In 1983, his father married Maureen Reardon. His half-sister, Michelle (Berta Michelle Ramsey Bauer), was born in 1985 (from Ed's one-night stand with Dr. Claire Ramsey.)
He has an uncle Mike, and a cousin, Hope, who was once married to Phillip's father, Alan. His aunt Hillary Bauer (Ed & Mike's half-sister) died in an explosion in 1984. He also has cousins Johnny and Lanie Bauer.
Rick is now raising his son, Jude Cooper Bauer (born in 2001), with the mother, Harley Cooper. He and his wife, Mel Boudreau, are expecting their first child.

Broken-hearted after a pregnant Mindy married Phillip, Rick got involved with--and lost his virginity to--the slightly older Dr. Ramsey, who ended up being the biological mother to Rick’s half-sister Michelle.
ROXIE SHAYNE:
Rick fell for Reva Shayne’s little sister Roxanne in 1984. Mindy’s jealousy couldn’t derail their relationship, but Roxie’s past as a prostitute and a bout of amnesia did. Roxie ended up engaged to Rick’s cousin Johnny, but was hospitalized after suffering a nervous breakdown while dealing with Johnny’s cancer.
MEREDITH READE:
Fletcher’s sister was a hard-nosed, practical doctor who eventually gave in to Rick’s comic good humor. They were a happy couple until Meredith disagreed with Rick’s decision to go into a family practice instead of becoming a surgeon. Unfortunately, Meredith found solace in Phillip’s arms, and became pregnant with his child. That didn’t stop the determined doc from wedding Rick…but after losing the baby, the paternity secret being revealed, and being told that she could have no more children, Meredith left Rick in the hopes that he could one day reconcile with his best friend and become a father.
RAE ROONEY:
Quirky Rae Rooney, a comic/singer, seemed to be the perfect match for Dr. Bauer. They could even double date with Chelsea and Johnny—her best friend and his cousin. Unfortunately, Rae had a dark side. Chelsea, though kind, had rebuffed the romantic advances of Rae’s mentally ill brother, and Rae started stalking Chelsea in revenge. When her brother committed suicide, Rae went further off the deep end, trying to kill Chelsea and succeeding in killing Frank Cooper’s fiancée Dana Jones, who had discovered Rae’s evil intent.

MEDICAL HISTORY:
Rick became addicted to speed to keep up in med school. In 2002, Rick learned that a virus had severely damaged his heart. A heart transplant saved his life. A friend, Prince Richard Winslow of San Cristobel, was Rick’s heart donor.
LEGAL HISTORY:
Rick spent a night in jail after a fight with the Galahads at the 1984 Spring Dance. He was sentenced to community service for his role in helping fake Phillip's death.
OCCUPATIONS:
In New York City, Rick worked as a fry cook at Circus Underground. He also worked as an orderly at Cedars throughout college & med school and has since become an M.D.
