PART 10 “Hi yah junior, you been good to mummy today?” Michael asked as he placed his hand on Maria’s growing stomach. “Hey, where’s my hello?” Maria complained. “Sorry mate, mummy’s getting jealous! Hi babe.” He replied, kissing her cheek. “Too right I’m getting jealous, I want you all to myself!” She replied turning round, determined to get a proper greeting from her man. Throwing her arms around his neck, she pulled him as flush to her body as they could get, and moved in to devour his lips. “Mmm if that’s the sort of greeting I get when you’re jealous, I’ll have to do it more often.” Michael replied when their passionate kiss finally ended. “Well there’s plenty more where that came from.” She whispered seductively, nibbling on his ear before moving towards his lips once more. “Sounds promising, let’s forget dinner!” He replied, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards their bedroom. All that could be heard as the bedroom door banged shut was Maria’s giggles at Michael’s impulsiveness. As
they laid in each other’s arms totally spend after making love, Maria turned
to Michael. “Why, what happened?” He asked concerned. Ever since Liz and Max had finally got back together, he hadn’t seen either of them so happy, unless he thought back to them at high school that was. “She’s
pregnant.” Maria replied bluntly. “That’s why she was in a state.” “What? Did Max yell at her or something?” He knew his friend had no aspirations for more kids, but Max yelling and screaming at Liz? That was a hard picture to form. No matter how much he didn’t want more kids, Michael couldn’t imagine Max turning his back on Liz once again. “No
nothing like that. Liz hadn’t
told him. She was just really
worried ‘cause he had said he doesn’t want any more, and now it’s too
late.” “Yeah you were pretty cool actually.” Maria said, thinking back to when she’d told Michael. “I told Liz to tell Max tonight, and I she said she would. He needs to know, and the longer she leaves it the more worrying she’s gonna do.” Maria replied desperately trying to fight the wave of sleepiness that was washing over her body. “Well then, she’s probably already told him by now and they’re probably celebrating just like we’ve done!” Michael replied. The soft snoring from Maria signalled to him that his last sentence hadn’t been heard. Realising the conversation was definitely over, Michael closed his eyes and followed her quickly into a deep sleep. “Hi babe, are you feeling better this morning?” Max asked as his dozing girlfriend opened her eyes. “Yeah I think so.” She replied rubbing her eyes to wake up. She still loved waking up beside Max each morning, somehow it always reminded her how lucky she was. Rubbing her fingers over his bare chest, Max lifted her chin and took her lips in a passionate lock. Moaning softy into his mouth, Liz couldn’t help but marvel at what a wonderful kisser he was. His roaming hands ran down the side of her short lacy nightdress, then moved back upwards bringing the material with him to expose her bare stomach. Placing his hand on it, Max drew circles on her skin with the pad of his finger. All thoughts of the baby and what Max might do or say flew out of her mind, all she wanted to do was concentrate on his wonderful touch. Her body was flooded with an amazing feeling, her blood pumping round her body at an thunderous rate. Max was like a drug to her, no matter what she just couldn’t get enough. Wanting to take control, Liz pushed Max backwards so that he laid on his back, and she moved on top. His hands moved to her bare waist and caressed her skin as she kissed the tort muscles of his chest. Through heavy lidded eyes, Max saw Liz move closer to his face, nibbling at his neck before she reached her destination. The kiss was deep and full of passion, making their need for each other even more greater. As he felt her mouth open slightly, he slipped his tongue inside, wanting her, needing her. Liz too felt the overwhelming desire that ran through them both. The heat in her stomach was up to boiling temperature, and she couldn’t help but rub against him in an attempt to ease her ache. All sane thoughts flew out the window, both totally oblivious of surroundings, only feelings. Just at that moment, their bedroom door burst open and Ellie flew in. “Good morning!” She said cheerily, blissfully unaware of what she had just interrupted. Quickly rolling off Max, Liz tried to hide her flushed cheeks from her daughter, as Max tried to cover the pained expression on his face. “Hi sweetie, why don’t you go downstairs and watch some TV. We’ll be down soon.” Liz said trying to remove the little girl from the room. “Will you come down too daddy? We can watch cartoons together.” She asked. “Soon, I’ll come down soon.” Was all Max could reply. Turning her head to look at him, Liz could see Max was struggling to contain himself. “Go on Sweetie.” Liz encouraged. “Ok, don’t be long daddy.” Ellie replied before skipping out of the room. “We’ve really got to get a lock on that door!” Max groaned as he pulled Liz close to him once again. “That or a babysitter for the weekend!” He added kissing her neck. “Now where were we?” She replied looking into his deep brown eyes and seeing them full of arousal once again. A little while later, Ellie came back upstairs to find her parents. She was most upset that Max hadn’t come down to watch the cartoons as promised. Pushing open the door quietly, she found her parents wrapped in each other’s arms fast asleep, with contented looks on their faces. “Hump!” She mumbled before stomping downstairs. Falling in front of the TV once more, Ellie conceded that she’d have to watch the cartoons on her own, but decided she’d definitely make them feel guilty and have to make it up to her. True to her word, Ellie was anything but helpful when Liz and Max finally rose around 10.30 am. “You promised!” She complained as they sat down to breakfast. “I know I did sweetie, but I was really tired, you know daddy’s been working really hard. I’m sorry. We’ll do it next week.” Max replied hoping to pacify the little girl. “No fair!” Ellie winged. “Ok, how can I make it up to you?” Max asked as Liz put a large plate of pancakes down on the table. “Mmm.” She thought as Liz poured maple syrup over Ellie’s pancakes. The rest of breakfast went past peacefully, as Ellie thought about what Max could do. Liz smiled softly at him, knowing their little girl wasn’t going to let him off easily. “The zoo, I want to go to the zoo.” She announced as Liz carried the dirty plates to the sink. “The zoo huh? Wow, you must be really mad at me then.” He replied pulling his daughter onto his lap. “Yeap, that’s right, I’m really mad.” She replied nodding her head. “What do you think Liz?” He asked “Well if that’s what you need to do to make it up to her, then the zoo it is.” Liz replied smiling. “Yay, we going to the zoo! We’re going to the zoo!” She exclaimed bouncing up and down on Max’s knee. “Ok, do that as we won’t be going anywhere ‘cause I won’t be able to walk!” Max replied standing Ellie back down on the floor. “Well if you want to go to the zoo you’d better go and get dressed, you can’t go anywhere dressed like that!” Liz replied looking at Ellie still in her nightdress. “Ok.” Ellie replied excitedly before running upstairs. “This could get expensive if we have to make it up to Ellie each time.” Max replied pulling Liz close to him. “Mmm.” Was all she replied before passionately kissing him. The trip to the zoo was a great success, Ellie loved every moment of it. For Liz, it helped take her mind off her own problems, and things she needed to discuss with Max. She couldn’t help but feel sad as she watched Ellie and Max feeding one of the animals. She didn’t know what Max would do when he found out about the baby, she knew she’d have to tell him eventually. But she wondered how Ellie would react if Max left them. Would her little girl blame her and the new baby? No matter what Liz thought, Ellie was only five and would never understand. In her heart she just couldn’t muster the courage to tell him. No, she’d wait a few more days, maybe bring the subject up again like before, to see if his views had changed and maybe then tell him. “Yes, right now I don’t want to spoil anything.” She thought to herself.

11 “Hi Michael, what you doing here?” Max asked as his friend entered his office. “Just thought I drop by and see how you are, seeing as I was in the neighbourhood and all.” Michael replied sitting down in the chair opposite Max’s desk. “Well erm ………. thanks.” “I thought maybe we could go out for lunch or something. I thought maybe you might wanna talk.” Michael said, trying to instigate some sort of reaction from his friend. “Yeah ok, sure ……. erm talk?” Max said confused as to what Michael was going on about. “Yeah,
talk. Look you should know that I
know ok.” Michael confessed. “Max,
it’s ok, you don’t have to pretend. Maria
told me last night.” “About Liz.” “What
about Liz?” Max said, giving
Michael his full attention now. “Michael
will you please just stop talk in riddles and cut to the chase.”
Max insisted “Know what? What the hell are you talking about?” Max replied, starting to get angry with his friend. “God I’m sorry Max, I should go.” Michael said standing up and starting to walk out. “No
way Michael, you’re not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on.
If something is wrong with Liz I deserve to know.
Now spill it.” “Ok, now you’re starting to worry me. Is she ok?” “Just go and see her.” Michael insisted. “Fine, this better be important.” Max complained, getting up and grabbing his jacket. “It is mate, believe me.” Michael replied following Max outside. “Liz babe? It’s me, are you home?” He called as he stepped inside the front door. “Yeah I’m in the kitchen Max.” She replied as his footsteps got nearer. “What are you doing home, you don’t normally come home for lunch. Do you want something?” She replied smiling. After her bout of morning sickness the other day she had found it a lot easier to control. “No you’re right, I don’t, and yeah some salad would be great” He said. “I just had an interesting conversation with Michael at the office.” He added. “Oh yeah, what did he say?” She asked cutting up the tomatoes for the salad. “Not
a lot really, in fact he didn’t make much sense at all.”
Max replied, playing it cool to see if Liz would say anything. “Well yeah that was my reaction too, you see he thought I knew something, which I obviously don’t. Got anything you want to share with me Liz?” Max asked pointedly. “What do you mean?” She replied defensively. “I’m not totally sure really. But you, Michael and Maria know something that he thought I did. He was under the impression it was pretty important information, so, like I said, got anything you want to share with me?” He asked again. The room went silent for a few minutes, apart from the sound of Liz chopping the tomatoes. She knew exactly what he was getting at, although she guessed Michael hadn’t actually told Max what it was. She was so intent concentrating on how to tell him, she didn’t feel Max get up and encircle her body. “You keep doing that and we’ll have sliced finger in the salad too.” He said softly, stilling her hand and spinning her round. “Please Liz, what is it.” He added Her head was dipped, she couldn’t look in his eyes. “Oh god, what do I tell him?” A voice inside her head shouted. “Look
at me Liz.” He ordered, but she
kept her head low. “Please?”
He added, but still nothing. In
the end, he slipped his finger under her chin and gently lifted her face so that
their eyes were level. It was then
that he noticed the tears forming in her eyes.
She looked so sad and perhaps even frightened. “I guess that depends on how you look at it.” She whispered back. “Please.” He added once again. “Ok, I’ve been meaning to tell you for a few days now.” She started pulling away from him slightly. “I don’t know how it happened, ok yeah I do know, but it wasn’t supposed to, god I am so sorry, everything is such a mess ….” She babbled. “Liz!
Just tell me.” He said snapping her back to reality. “I’m so sorry Max, I didn’t do it on purpose, I know how you feel about more children.” She replied, trying to quash the silence that had descended on the room once again. “How long have you known?” He asked sitting down on a nearby chair. “About a week, perhaps a bit longer, but I only took a test a few days ago.” She replied. “Why didn’t you tell me Liz?” He asked softly. “I tried Max, I really did. I asked you how you felt about more children a couple of times, but each time you replied that you were happy with just Ellie.” She said, as a tear slipped down her face. As she looked at his non expressional face Liz could suddenly feel him slipping away from her. “Ok, I answered your question truthfully, I guess through choice I’d wait longer, we’ve only just got back together and it would complicate things having another child.” “It’s
ok, I guess I could not have it.” She
whispered, afraid of his answer. In
her heart she knew she was as ready now to terminate his baby as she had been at
16. She just couldn’t do it. “Hey, slow down, I didn’t say anything about not having it.” Max said realising she was misinterpreting his replies. “Ok, let’s start again.” He said taking a deep breath. Stretching out his arm, he caught her hand in his and pulled her towards to him. Standing up, he looked down into her damp eyes and gently kissed her forehead. “Liz, when I answered your questions, I didn’t know you were already pregnant. Had I of done there is no way I would have said that to you.” He replied. “But you were just being honest.” She replied sadly. “Yes I was being honest, but that doesn’t mean my views can’t change. I love you Liz, and no matter what I want to be with you. Ellie is a wonderful child, but I missed out a lot on her growing up, I don’t want that this time.” He said smiling softly. As he looked into her eyes, Max allowed his hand that was holding her arm to fall away and slowly move to rest on her soon to expand stomach. “When do you think it happened?” He asked “By my calculations, the first time. I guess with Ellie being sick and everything we forgot to be careful.” She replied shyly. “I just assumed you’d be on the pill or something, I mean you didn’t say otherwise.” He replied putting his arms around her. “I should have, I’m sorry my mind was on other things at the time. I didn’t expect for us to end up like we did that day, and as there has been no one else I’ve slept with since that one time with you, I’ve had no reason to take the pill.” She replied. “I’m not blaming you Liz, it’s ok. I know we didn’t plan this, but we’ll cope, just like we did with Ellie five years ago. I do have one request though.” “What’s that?” She asked. “That
you agree to give up working at the Crashdown as soon as possible.
Being on your feet all day can’t be good for you or the baby.
It isn’t like we need the money Liz, I want to support us both.” “Oh and another thing.” He said pulling away from her slightly so he could see her face. “I love you so much Liz Parker, and this is something I should have done along time ago, if only you’d let me. Marry me Liz, I want us to be a proper family.” “Are you proposing to me Max Evans?” She asked playfully. “Most certainly. Will you?” “Of course I will.” She replied as tears once again welled in her eyes. This time though they weren’t tears of sadness, but instead they were tears of immense joy. Never in her dreams did she expect Max to take the news about the baby so well, and for him to propose as well. In her heart she didn’t think the day could get any better. “Oh and just one more thing.” He said. “I want you to promise me that you’ll never ever worry about telling me anything again, no matter what it is. I love you Liz and there is nothing on this earth that could quell that.” He added, kissing her soft lips. “I love you too Max.” She mumbled against his lips before he deepened their kiss. Inside she felt like she’d burst with happiness at any moment. Max knew about the baby and still loved her! Relaxing for the first time since taking the test, Liz allowed herself to melt into the arms of the man she wholeheartedly loved. It wasn’t long before desire took over and they moved up to their bedroom. Their love making was tender and sweet, feeling the amazing love they both had for each other. As she laid in his arms, Max gently caressed her bare stomach. To him it felt quite strange that there was a little thing that was soon to be a baby growing inside her, something their love had made. In truth, he really did like the thought of another baby. Yes he’d previously wanted just them and Ellie, but Liz carrying his child felt so wonderful to him. As they drifted into a deep sleep, both thought of how much their lives had changed since the day Max had healed Liz as the Crashdown. So much had happened, running from the Sheriff, Topolski and the FBI, then there was Ellie’s untimely entrance into the world, along with Liz’s insistence that Max follow his destiny. So much change, but with another baby on the way they both knew their lives would change once more. “A baby?” Ellie squealed “That’s right sweetie, is that ok?” Liz replied, as her daughter sat between her and Max on the sofa in their lounge. “Erm,
I think so, does that mean I won’t be your baby anymore?” “Of course you will honey, you’ll just have to be a big sister to the new baby too.” “Ooh
a big sister, that sounds fun! Can
I play house with her?” “A boy! No boys are smelly, I don’t like boys!” Ellie announced. “Oh well, we’ll just have to wait and see, we’ve got plenty of time.” Max replied, stroking his daughter’s hair. “When can I see the baby? Will it be here tomorrow?” She asked innocently “Oh no sweetie, the baby won’t be here for another six months.” Liz said. “Six months! That’s ages, why can’t we get the baby tomorrow?” She complained “Because it’s not ready to be here yet.” Max replied. “But
why not daddy?” “You
know when I explained why Aunty Maria is getting bigger sweetie?” “But how did it get there?” Ellie asked innocently, her big brown eyes staring up at her moth. “Ok, this is my exit.” Max said getting up. “Thanks!” Liz called back. “Ok, well ……………” Liz started. She had known that as Ellie was such an inquisitive child, her asking about the baby was inevitable, but now the time was upon her, Liz had to think fast as to how to explain it to the child. Max’s exit hadn’t made it easy for Liz, now all the pressure was on her, and Liz made herself a mental note to get back at Max for that one! Telling her parents was a lot easier this time. Both Nancy and Jeff were thrilled for their only daughter. Since getting to know her granddaughter better, Nancy was constantly amazed by how wonderful the little girl was. How wise in the world she was for a five year old, how much she thrived for knowledge and simply loved being around people. She knew that was as much down to how Liz had brought Ellie up, and Nancy was proud her daughter was doing such a brilliant job as a mother. “We really are happy for you sweetheart.” Jeff said, hugging his daughter. “Thank
you dad, I really couldn’t be happier than I am right now.” “Oh I will Mr Parker, she’s not going to do anything even remotely strenuous for the next six months.” Max replied as Liz flashed him an angry stare. “So, I guess you’ve got a wedding to plan then.” Nancy said “Yeap, and I could really use your help there. We haven’t got much time and I really don’t know where to start.” Liz confessed, hoping her mother would take up the challenge. “Well then, I guess we’d better arrange to meet with Diane, weddings take a lot of preparation and I’m sure Diane would love to help.” Nancy replied smiling at the young couple. Catching her mother’s look of happiness, Liz turned to Max and smiled at him. In return he winked at his soon to be wife. He understood what Liz had just done and couldn’t help but admire her. Liz knew her mother would want to take over their wedding plans, but Liz was totally happy with that. She knew it would be a good mutual bonding experience for mother, daughter and future mother in law, something that was very long overdue. When

12 “Liz sit still for goodness sake, I can’t put this in if you don’t!” Isabelle snapped as Liz fidgeted. “I’m sorry Isabelle, I can’t help it I’m just so excited.” She replied beaming a huge smile across her face. “Right, I’m done now.” Isabelle replied standing back and admiring the sparkling gold tiara she had just fixed in Liz’s hair. As Liz stood up and turned around, both Isabelle and Maria gasped an intake of breath. She look simply stunning. The soft ivory wedding dress look perfect against Liz’s dark hair and tanned skin. The dress was strapless with a full skirt, light pearl beading decorated the tight bodice which was a corset style at the back. The dress was fairly simple, but very Liz, and it had been tweaked in just the right place to hide Liz’s slightly showing stomach. The large gold and diamond sparking tiara set off the dark curls in her hair perfectly, she looked truly amazing. “Liz darling, the car is ……… here. Oh my ……… sweetheart, you look so beautiful.” Her mother said kissing her daughter gently on the cheek. “Thanks mum”. She replied softly, glancing at Maria who was quickly wiping away a tear that had escaped. “We should be going, see you at the church Liz.” Isabelle said kissing her soon to be sister in law before leaving the room. Both Liz and Maria stood alone in the room, staring at each other as they desperately tried not to cry. “Liz baby, I know you’ve waited for this day for a long time now. You and Max have been through so much, but true love shines through like a bright beacon at night. You’ve been through the rough and tough times, now it’s time to forget them and enjoy the wonderful life and happiness you deserve. You look perfect Liz, you’re gonna take his breath away!” Maria said hugging her friend. “I don’t know what to say Maria. You’ve been there for me through everything, all the bad times and a few good times. You’ve picked me up when I was down, fed me ice cream and a shoulder to cry on when I was sad and down. There is no way I would have got to this point in my life without your love and friendship. You’ve never judged me even if you haven’t agreed with my decisions, you’re the best friend I could ever have hoped for” Liz replied. “Enough already, you’re gonna start me crying again! God you never told me how emotional I’d get now I’m pregnant.” Maria replied laughing through her tears. “You have to stop ‘Ria, or you’ll start me again and Isabelle will kill me if I ruin my make up.” Liz replied her eyes full of tears that were threatening to spill down her face. When Liz finally descended down the stairs, the only person in the house to see her was her father. There were no words that Jeff Parker could say when he saw his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time, he was totally speechless. It hit him suddenly that she was no longer his little girl, but a grown woman, about to be married, and with young daughter and another baby on the way, it was almost too much for him to cope with. All he could do to stop his emotions from running away was scoop her up into his arms and hold her tight. “Oh Lizzie you look wonderful, truly wonderful.” He whispered, his throat tight with emotion. “You love him very much, don’t you sweetheart?” Jeff asked as they drove to the church. “Yes daddy, I do. I have never loved anyone apart from Max, he’s my life.” She replied thinking of Max waiting at the alter for her. “I
hope you will be very happy together. Your
mother and I love you very much Liz, and no matter what we will always be here
for you. I know we’ve had our ups and downs, and yes we’ve clashed
over the decisions you’ve made in your life.
But never forget Liz, that without a doubt your mother and I are so very
proud of you and how strong you are.” Once the car arrived at its destination, Liz carefully got out of the car. She knew that the next time she took the trip, she would no longer be Elizabeth Parker, but instead Elizabeth Evans, and just the mere thought made her stomach flip inside. As she stood just outside the church, Isabelle and Maria, her two bridesmaids, fused over the train of her dress, making sure it was just right. Standing beside Liz, looking up in awe at her mother was Ellie, Liz’s flower girl. “Mummy, you look soooo pretty! Just like a princess from the stories you read me at night time.” Ellie beamed. “Oh sweetie you are so perfect, do you know that? Promise me you’ll never grow up baby, never loose your innocence, never stop being my baby girl.” Liz replied, as Ellie put her arms around her mother and hugged her as best she could through the wedding dress. Ellie’s words nearly tipped Liz over the edge, as she fought desperately to control her tears once more.
“I promise.” Ellie replied sincerely. It was a promise Liz knew in her heart that Ellie could never keep; it had been the same promise Nancy had asked Liz to make those few years ago before she and Max had disappeared into the desert in search of clues to her visions. Ellie’s growing up was as inevitable as the sun shinning, but at that moment, Liz just wished she could freeze time and not move; everything was way too perfect for her to comprehend. As the organist started the music, Max, Michael and Alex stood up and waited for the bride to glide down the isle. Having two equally close friends, he hadn’t been able to decide who should be his best man, so Max had chosen both of them. A shiver went down Max’s spine as he heard the congregation jump to their feet, and Liz descended down the isle to meet her soon to be husband. Ellie walked in front of Liz, taking handfuls of fresh white rose petals from her tiny wicker basket and scattering them on the floor; all the time smiling widely everyone who had come to see her parents marry. As she drew up beside him, Max turned to face her for the first time, and mouthed I love you to her, before taking her slightly trembling hand in his. For both of them the service was a blur, all they cared about was that their dreams had finally come true that day. For Max, he couldn’t even begin to explain how he was feeling, his love for Liz filled every fibre of his body, overwhelming him totally. Looking at her as they said their vows, he blinked several times to stop tears cascading down his face. She looked so wonderful, so beautifully perfect, his Liz, his one and only love. For Liz, the whole ceremony seemed like a dream, never had she truly thought she would actually get to this point in her life. The point where she exchanged vows and married the only man she’d ever loved in the past, and the only man she would ever love in the future. The evening reception was held in the Evans’ garden, a marquee had been put up especially and balloons, candles and draped soft ivory material had made it look perfectly romantic. As they took the floor for the first dance of the night, Max turned to Liz. “Mrs Evans, do you know that this is the first time I have got you alone all day.” He said as he put his arms around her waist and pulled her close to his body. “Alone on the dance floor, but not alone in reality, there are still plenty of cameras and eyes pointed at us.” She reminded smiling at him. “Well it feels like we’re alone right now. Have I told you how amazingly, stunningly fantastic you look tonight?” He said as the music started. Staring into her deep brown eyes, Max couldn’t resist bending his head and kissing her passionately. As they glided around the dance floor, their love filling the marquee, everyone watching them felt the overwhelming happiness radiating from the couple. Liz felt like she was floating around the dance floor, with Max’s strong arms her only anchor to the ground and reality. She didn’t think she could ever feel more happier than she did at that moment, gazing up into her new husband’s eyes, with the sound of Ronan Keating’s ‘When you say nothing at all’ filling her ears. “The smile on your face let’s me know that you need me, there’s a truth in your eyes saying you’ll never leave me. The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me wherever I fall.” Liz sang the song quietly to her husband. The words encapsulated exactly how she was feeling at that moment. She knew they would be together forever, Max would always be there to catch her whenever she fell. “God Max I love you so much.” She whispered as a single tear rolled down her cheek. “I love you too Mrs Evans.” He replied softly, catching the solitary tear with his finger and wiping it away. Mrs Evans, that sounded so good to Max, his Liz was now his Liz forever, his wife, mother to his beautiful daughter and unborn child, could life get any better? As the music slowly died away, Max reluctantly relinquished his grip on his new wife, knowing there were a lot of people who wanted to see her too. For the rest of the evening, Max and Liz mingled with their guests, hardly having time to spend with themselves at all until it was time to end their special day, and head off for their first night as newlyweds. Before they left though, a special dance was saved for the man who felt like he had lost so much that day. Jeff Parker had held on to his emotions admirably throughout the day, yet although the day was so special, he couldn’t help but feel sadness inside. Only a few hours earlier he had given away his most precious possession, his only daughter. He didn’t doubt that Max cared very deeply for his little girl, but was he worthy enough? Does any father really believe any lad is truly worthy of their daughter’s hand in marriage? “At last, I get to dance with the prettiest girl in the room.” Jeff said, pulling Liz into his arms as the music of Elton John’s ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ filled the marquee. “Oh dad thank you, I think you’re a bit biased though.” Liz replied. “Oh but I’m entitled to, I’ve just given my daughter away today. My little baby doesn’t need me any more.” Jeff said honestly. “I’ll always need you daddy, always. No I’m not your baby any more, but I’ll always be your daughter.” She replied. Pulling her closer, Jeff held on tightly to his daughter throughout the remainder of the song. His grasp got stronger as the song neared the finish. To Jeff, the end of the song signified letting Liz go and live her new life with her new husband. Finally relinquishing his grip, Jeff kissed his daughter’s cheek before allowing her to head back to her other guests and away from him. “She still loves you Jeff.” Nancy said as her crestfallen husband headed over to her. “I know Nancy, this just seems so final.” “We knew this day would come along eventually, and she looks so happy.” “I know, it’s just me being me. I’m so pleased she’s happy at last, she deserves it.” “I agree.” Nancy replied hugging her husband and thinking back to their wedding day twenty-three years previously. “So that’s both our children married now.” Philip said, putting his arms around his wife. “Yeah. I guess our job is done now.” Diane replied, feeling a bit down. ”I’m
not so sure, I think it’s just starting again.
Our granddaughter is wonderful, and there’ll be more to come very soon.
Isabelle, Liz and Maria are going to need your help all over again once
their babies are born.” Philip
said wisely “I didn’t think I’d ever get you alone tonight!” Max said as they walked up the stairs to the Bridal Suite of the nearby hotel. “Well you’ve got me now.” She giggled as he put the key in the lock. “Ok, now for some tradition.” Max said before sweeping Liz up in his arms. “What are you doing Max?” She squealed. “Carrying you over the threshold Mrs Evans.” He replied cheekily. “Max what are you like! You’re going to break your back carrying me at the moment!” Liz said as Max laid her on the luxury four-poster bed. “What
do you mean, you’ve hardly put any weight on Liz ……..”
Max started before he was interrupted by her cries. “Just a little surprise I got for you.” He replied grinning. “It’s perfect Max, you’re perfect, everything is so perfect! This has without doubt been the best day of my life.” She said looking up into her new husband’s eyes. “Ditto.” He replied nuzzling her neck. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this day to be so wonderful, and believe me I’ve dreamt about marrying you many times Mrs Liz Evans.” “Liz
Evans, that still sounds really strange …… but I like it.” Back at the evening reception, most of the guests had slowly left, leaving just a few people in the Evans’ garden. “You ok ‘Ria?” Michael asked, seeing she was rather quiet. “Yeah, just me being me.” She replied. “What’s up?” He asked softly, encircling his arms around her waist. “Nothing.” She said, dipping her head. “Maria, talk to me. Please.” He insisted. Over the previous few months he’d learnt her mood swings, and when she said nothing was wrong she really meant exactly the opposite. “Ok, I guess …….. I guess want this too Michael.” She replied honestly. “What, a wedding? But I thought you wanted to wait until after the baby was born.” He replied confused. “I’ll never understand women!” He thought to himself. “I did, but I’m not so sure now. Today was great, Liz looked awesome, but I’m not sure if I really want all this. I want just us, and close family and friends to be at our wedding, I want it simple, and …….. I want to get married before the baby is born.” She replied looking up into his eyes. “You can have whatever you want Pixie, I mean that.” He replied kissing her soft lips. “God I love you Michael, what on earth did I do to deserve you?” Maria murmured against his lips as two tears trickled down her face. “I love you too ‘Ria, and I always think that about you. I put you through so much, pushed you away so many times, yet you always came back, never gave up on me. I don’t deserve you Maria, you’re too good for me.” He replied, lifting his hand from her waist and brushing away her tears. “Hey you can’t cry, we’ve got a wedding to plan!” He added, making her smile once more. “You know what, I never thought it was ever going to be this good. Back in high school when we were running from the FBI and alien hunters I thought that would be a part of my life forever, I never expected anything normal.” “We’ll always be on our guard Maria, always, being alien does that to you. But we’re human too now, you, Liz and Alex have made us that. This is my life and nothing could make it any more perfect than what it is right now.” Michael replied, dipping his head to kiss her once again. Sinking into his strong arms, Maria couldn’t stop the tears of happiness tumbling down her cheeks. Over the years she’d managed to crack him. There had been times when she’d thought he’d never accept her, but right then she knew it had all been worth it. As she clung onto her soon to be husband, Maria was grateful she hadn’t given up or walked away from her Spaceboy. Just as she’d wanted, the following week, Maria and Michael got married, up at the reservoir with her family and friends beside her. Amy was there, shedding many tears for her only daughter as Jim gave Maria away to Michael. Diane and Philip beamed for the second time in a week as their second ‘adopted’ son tied the knot with his high school sweetheart. Alex and Isabelle watched on, proud that they were all married now. For Max and Liz it brought back all the memories of their wedding the previous week. It was an emotional day, having three pregnant women around made sure of that, but it was everything Maria had wanted and so much more. It was so simple, so relaxed, but it was a dream come true for her. She’d had tough times trying to persuade Michael to open up, let her in, and admit that he need her. There were many of those times when they’d argued and walked away, each too stubborn to admit they were wrong. Without a doubt though, they both knew they couldn’t survive without the other. They brought out the best in each other, they were unable to live without the other. Throughout all the tough times, running from the Sheriff, FBI and so on, not once had their love faltered. They’d fought not only people, but the small matter of Michael’s destiny. Yet for Maria those times seemed a lifetime away as she gazed deep into his spellbinding eyes as they danced their first dance as a married couple. So much had happened in the previous six months it was sometimes extremely overwhelming. Yet Liz knew in her heart the next six months would also be equally tremendous and certainly challenging, four new babies between the six of them would see to that. THE
