take when

Colin Andrew Mochrie was born
on November 30, 1957 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. Since he was the
son of an airline maintanance executive, he moved in 1964 to Montreal
and 1969 to Vancouver. Due to moving around so much when he was
younger, he claims to be quite shy. He graduated as valedictorian
from Killarney High School. Colin originally wanted to be a marine
biologist or a chef, but he discovered comedy at age 16, when
a friend dared him to try out for a play. He walked out on stage
as the undertaker, accidentally ripped his pants and was enchanted
by the sound of laughter. He went to theatre school for four years
and then joined Theatresports, where he met his friend, Ryan Stiles.
Colin introduced Ryan to the art of improv.
Colin followed Ryan to Second
City, where he auditioned and was hired by his future wife, Debra
McGrath. In the early '90's, Colin and Debra moved to Los Angeles
because Debra was working for a television show. Dan Patterson,
the producer of Whose Line is it Anyway?, was holding auditions
in Los Angeles. Colin had failed the audition back in Toronto,
but decided to try again. He was flown to London to film episodes.
After their son, Luke, was born,
Debra's television show as cancelled, so the couple was left in
Los Angeles with no source of income. They sold their CDs just
to buy diapers and feed their son. During this time, Colin fell
in love with cooking, saying Debra hasn't cooked since 1991. They
moved back to Canada, where they currently reside. Colin flies
to Los Angeles during the summer to shoot Whose Line is it Anyway?
Interesting facts about Colin:
Ryan Stiles introduced Colin to
his future wife, Debra.
Colin is most famous for his banana bread recipe, among other
things.
Colin is very into mysteries (from his appearance on Hollywood
Squares)
