The Cleveland Cavaliers announced the signing of free agent
G/F Bryant Stith. Stith, a 65
swingman, spent last season with the Boston Celtics where he averaged 9.7 ppg.
Known for his streaky shooting, Stith averaged 40% from the field
including 37.6% from outside the three point line.
Coming out of the University of Virginia, Stith was
selected in the first round (13th overall) by the Denver Nuggets.
Stith spent eight seasons with the Nuggets before being traded along with
Chris Herren to Boston for Calbert Chaney and Robert Pack.
Stith ranked ninth overall in the NBA with a
steal-per-turnover ratio of 1.06. Over
his nine year NBA career, Stith has averaged 10.7 ppg.
His career high was in the 1996-1997 season where Stith averaged 14.9 ppg
with the Nuggets.
Stith has played for Cavaliers Head Coach John Lucas in the
past. Lucas was an assistant with
Denver for two years while Stith was a member of the Nuggets.
The addition of Bryant will help to solidify our
Backcourt, said Cleveland General Manager Jim Paxson.
He will add a defensive presence to our team as well as veteran
leadership.
