Today the Cleveland Cavaliers announced a five-player
trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Among the players gained in this deal
were former Cavalier Tyrone Hill also Jumaine Jones. The Cavaliers in
return gave the sixers Matt Harping, Cedric Henderson, and Robert “Tractor”
Traylor.
Hill
was a member of the Cavaliers for four years (93-97) until he was dealt
to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Terrell Brandon deal. Hill (33 years
old) a veteran who is going to attempt to bring his winning ways from the
City of Brotherly love, back to Cleveland.
My first impression on this deal was that G.M Jim
Paxon had made a bad move. I thought that Paxon was dealing young talent
for an average veteran, and an unproven young kid (Jones, 23 years old).
Now that I have read up on the matter, I do like the deal.
The Cavs are receiving veteran leadership that they
lack, as well as a fill in for the developing Diop, and healing Illguaskus.
Henderson and Traylor have always been underachievers, both not even averaging
more then 5 points per game. They are both young players (Henderson 28:
Traylor 25) that I always hear are going to break out, but that just never
seems to happen. Harping (26 years old) was solid attribute on the most
of the time mundane Cleveland team. He averaged 11.1 points a game,
and was only on his first year with the club. Traylor consistently
battled with weight problems, and Henderson battled with coach Randy Wittman
on numerous occasions.
Hopefully as Hill, a Cincinnati resident growing
up, returns home, he can bring his 11 years of experience and winning ways
of the Sixers with him.
