The NBA released the 2001-2002 schedules and the Cavs
announce that they will usher in the John Lucas era by hosting the Boston
Celtics on October 30 at 7:00pm. Unfortunately,
and unlike last year, seven of the Cavs first eleven games are on the road
against some of the NBA’s finest: Charlotte, New York, Miami, Minnesota, and
San Antonio.
A couple of other key stretches during the season include
the following:
-
November 24- December 4: A five game home stand
against Miami, the Wizards, Atlanta, Charlotte, and
Detroit
-
January 10- January 18: The infamous six game in nine-night West Coast swing that
could possibly make or break a season.
-
January
26- February 2: A four game home stand with Boston, Minnesota, Washington,
and Detroit.
-
March
25, 26, and 28: Yet another trip out west, only three games in four
nights, but against possibly the three best teams in the West:
Phoenix, the World Champion Lakers, and the veteran Utah Jazz.
-
April
4- April 17: The Cavs close
with their last eight games against possible Eastern Conference playoff
teams, and if a playoff spot is in question for Cleveland at this time, how
they play during this stretch will decide if they are in or out.
A few other big dates for the Cavs are February 21, 2002
when the Los Angeles Lakers come to the Gund. The Cavs will put single game
tickets on sale on October 6, 2001, four days after John Lucas will open
Training Camp.
