In 1997 Capcom released Street Fighter 3. Street Fighter 3 is the first Street Fighter game to use Capcom's CPS3 technology. The only characters to return from the previous Street Fighter games are Ryu and Ken. The boss of Street Fighter 3 is the mysterious Gill, whose only super move is resurrection, which gives him all his life back. Gill is considered to be the most unfair character in a Street Fighter game.
New characters:
Alex - the new hero of Street Fighter he is a wrestler from America.
Dudley - an African American boxer.
Elena - a African princess who uses only kicks.
Ibuki - a female ninja from Japan, her father is believed
to be Geki, a ninja from the original Street Fighter.
Necro - a Russian who was genetically experiemented on by Gill.
Oro - a strange creature that is very ancient.
Sean - a brazillian teenager who is the student of
Ken.
Yun/Yang - twins who may be students of Gen.
Capcom released an updated version of Street Fighter 3 in late 1997 called Street Fighter 3: Second Impact. Akuma/Shin Akuma was added to the game along with two other new characters. Gill was given a second super move called Meteor Strike, but unfortunately he is still able to resurrect himself.
New characters:
Hugo - he was part of the Mad Gear gang in Final Fight. He is now a pro-wrestler managed
by Poison.
Urien - Gill's brother.
Capcom released Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike in 1999 as a final upgrade to Street Fighter 3. Chun Li was added to the cast of returning characters from the Street Fighter 2 series, along with several other new characters.
Gill got a new super move called Sepharic Wing which is very powerful. Akuma also got a new super move called Kongou Kokuretsu Zan which he learned at the end of Second Impact.
New characters:
Makoto - a Japanese girl who uses a unique style of
karate, her family runs a respected dojo.
Remy - a mysterious character, his style of fighting
is like Guile and Charlie's. It is thought that
he may be related to one of the two.
Q - a character who has eluded the CIA, it is thought
that he might be a robot as most of his body is
metallic.
Twelve - another one of Gill's experiments. He barely
has any features.
Street Fighter 3: Double Impact has been released
on the Sega Dreamcast and contains Street Fighter 3 and
Street Fighter 3: Second Impact. Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
has also been released for the Dreamcast.

My favorite version of Street Fighter 3 is Third Strike because it has the best characters. My favorite characters are Ibuki, Ryu, Ken, Matoko, Akuma, Elena, and Hugo. Another innovative feature in Third Strike is you get to choose between which of two opponents you will fight for the first eight battles, then you fight your characters sub boss, and then the final boss Gill. Second Impact has some better looking stages, but lacks the fun characters found in Third Strike.
