ELBERT ESLAND "EBB" SHIRLEY, 101,
but only 100 legally, of Hobbs, NM, died on
Jan. 3, 2012, in Eunice.
He was born Nov. 7, 1910, in Grand Saline,
TX, to John & Minnie Shirley. He attended
Ranger High School in the Class of 1929 at
Ranger, TX & married Lucille Patterson (RHS-
1933). Ebb moved to Monument in 1936. He
was the most kind and moral man ever. He was
a most proper man and was of the old school.
Ebb especially loved his children and grand-
children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hunting
arrowheads, bowling and golf. He played golf
three times a week until about four months ago.
He had many friends and was an inspiration and
good example to all. He was a member of First
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille;
son, Joe W. Shirley; daughter, Patsy Shirley
Colin; grandson, Kent Shirley; and four sisters:
Ruth Annie Shirley Lindsey (RHS-1926), Elizabeth
Shirley Moore (RHS-1929), Dealva Vide Dee Shirley
Vaugh (RHS-1932), and Maxelle Shirley Townsend
(RHS-1934).
At the time of his death, Shirley was survived
by four grandchildren, Kevin Wilson, & husband
Tom, of Hobbs, Kristi McCasland of Eunice, Paige
Gauren of Huntsville, AL, and Chad Colin, and
wife Angela, of MN; son-in-law, E.W. Colin of
Huntsville, AL; sister, Minnie Lee Evans (RHS-
1939) of Dallas, TX; daughter-in-law, Charlotte
Shirley Driver, and husband Robert; fourteen
great-grandchildren, Angel Lilley, Erin Norvell,
Nikki Lord, Cody Smith, Kyna Shirley, Kandice
Toman, Chance Shirley, Sean McCasland, Kacie
McCasland, Joseph Moore, Patsy Moore, Jason
Sampson, Denver Colin and Spencer Colin; and
eleven great-great-grandchildren.
