J.D. NICHOLS, 71, passed away on Sept. 19, 1985.
He was born on Sept. 28, 1913 in Granbury, TX to
Watt & Martha (Armstrong) Nichols. He attended
Ranger High School in the Class of 1930 at Ranger,
TX & married Ruth Gregg in 1943. J.D. served on
the Ranger ISD Board in the 60s. His siblings were
William Nichols (RHS-1923) & O.B. Nichols. Burial
was at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger.

Feb. 16, 2014 in Smithville, TX, with burial at
the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX.
She was born near Carbon, TX on Dec. 30, 1919 to
Mack Monroe & Sallie Pearl Perkins Gregg. Shortly
after graduating from Rising Star High School in
1937, she moved to Ranger, TX where she began nurses
training at Ranger General Hospital. She married J.D.
Nichols (RHS-1930) in 1943. After raising a family,
Ruth returned to her nursing career until her retire-
ment in 1983. J.D. passed away in 1985. During their
40 years in Ranger, Ruth and J.D. were members of the
Second Baptist Church. In 1987, Ruth moved to Buckner
Baptist Retirement Village in Dallas, TX where she
spent almost 20 years as a volunteer in two different
elementary schools. She was known by all as “The Cookie
Lady”, baking countless cookies for everyone around her.
She was a member of Grandview Baptist Church in Mesquite,
TX. In December of 2012, her failing health brought her
to Smithville for the last year of her life. Ruth will
be remembered for her hard work and service to others.
At the time of her death, Ruth was survived by her
daughters, Neva Lee (RHS-1971) and husband Steven Lee
of Rowlett, TX, Tawana (RHS-1965) and husband Terry
Rosanky of Smithville, three grandsons, Ryan Rosanky,
Kyle Lee, & Aron Lee, two granddaughters, Tara Rosanky
Bayer and Tracy Rosanky Dyess and nine great-grand-
children.
