JOE D. KIMBROUGH, 94, died peacefully on
Aug. 10, 2021 in Abilene, TX.
Joe was born in Ranger, TX in 1926 to G.O. &
Fannie Kimbrough. He graduated from Ranger
High School in 1943 and attended LSU as a
member of the U.S. Army Air Corp Reserve
from 1944-1945 when he entered into active
duty.
He graduated in 1949 from the University of
Texas with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He practiced
pharmacy in Brady and San Angelo, TX before
moving to Abilene. In 1953 he managed the
Professional Pharmacy in the Professional
building on North 19th across from Hendrick
Hospital. In 1957 he and Ed Templeton formed
a partnership, Templeton-Kimbrough Pharmacy,
that would last 23 years until Ed's untimely
death in 1980. In his later years Joe worked
as a relief pharmacist in Abilene, Clyde,
Merkel, and Haskell. He worked for over 50
years as a pharmacist and was a member of
the Texas Pharmacy Association, the American
Pharmacy Association, and the Big Country
Pharmaceutical Association. He was a longtime
member of the First Central Presbyterian
Church, and served his community at BOBS
(Breakfast on Beech St) and Meals on Wheels.
Joe loved the outdoors, especially snow skiing,
hiking, cycling, and golf. He was a loving
husband to his wife Beverly of 30 years. He
was a devoted and loving father to his children
and step children, and a playful Grandaddy
Joe to all of his grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a
brother, three sisters, his stepson Ralph,
and stepdaughter Sharon. His sister was
Juanita Kimbrough Warden (RHS-1937).
Left to cherish his memory are his wife
Beverly, his sons Kerry (Jill) Kimbrough
of Austin, TX, Kyle (Marie Elise) Kimbrough
of Corpus Christi, TX, and his daughter Kathy
(Jimmy) Strong of Abilene. He also leaves
behind his stepson Ron Pope, and stepdaughter
Susan (Jon) Pate. His nine grandchildren and
six great grandchildren will all miss him.
