JAMES CLAYBORNE "JAMEY" HEALER, 19, was
born April 19, 1931, in Ranger, TX. He was raised
by his mother, Pearl H. Wheat and his stepfather,
Curt Wheat. His father had died. His sister,
Barbara Healer Crouch (RHS-1951) now lives in
Malakoff, TX. He attended Ranger High School in
the Class of 1950.
Jamey joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 15 but,
with his mother’s permission, he was allowed to stay
in and finished high school in Massachusetts. He
was sent to Korea where he was injured and he was
returned to a hospital in San Antonio where his family
picked him up. He was at home in Ranger only three
months when he was killed in an automobile accident
on his 19th birthday, April 19, 1950. The accident
occurred between Ranger & Eastland.
His sister Barbara said that, "He was a wonderful
brother, always with a smile, pretty curly hair and
his good sense of humor. I wish he could have lived
for my children to have known. He was so very special."
