DR. EVA LEE YOUNG CRAIK, 91, passed away on Aug. 15,
2010 in a local medical center. She was a homemaking
teacher at Ranger High School in Ranger, TX.
Born Aug. 12, 1919 in Gatesville, TX, Eva Lee was
the daughter of the late C.J. & Leona (Blair) Young.
A graduate of McKinney, TX High School, she earned a
B.S. degree from Texas Woman's University, an M.Ed from
Hardin-Simmons University and an Ed.D from University
of North Texas. Eva Lee married David Warren Craik in
August of 1941 in Denton and moved to Abilene in 1953,
coming from Corpus Christi. She was Professor of Biology
at Hardin-Simmons for 22 years and was currently Professor
of Biology Emeritus.
She was honored by many organizations, including: Who's
Who of American Men and Women of Science; Fellow, Texas
Academy of Science; Who's Who of American Women; member
of American Assn. of University Women (AAUW); named Out-
standing Educator in 1972 at HSU; named to "The Fellowship"
at HSU as former faculty member of the year in 1993.
Other organizations where she had served include: leader
of Baptist Women, Mary Love Group; past president of
Hendrick Auxiliary; past president of Former Faculty
Staff at HSU; teacher of English as Second Language;
member of Abilene Garden Club; member of Senior Choir
at First Baptist Church; Sunday School teacher; and
member Abilene Woman's Club.
Dr. Craik was preceded in death by her husband, David
Warren Craik; her parents; stepmother, Babe Fern Young;
brother, C.J. Young, Jr.; sister, Eloise Grab; and half-
brother, Joe Bob Young.
She is survived by four sons and their wives, Robert A.
Craik and Heidi of Washington Crossing, PA; David D.
Craik and Priscilla of Atlanta, GA; Gary C. Craik and
Charlotte of Houston, TX; and Dr. Philip L. Craik and
Jan of Abilene; seven grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.
