DR. DAVID WARREN CRAIK, 49, head of the Hardin-
Simmons University's biology department, died at his
home in Abilene, TX, on Dec. 5, 1963.
Dr. Craik was born Aug. 19, 1914, at McPherson, KS, to
Elmer L. & Elva Miller Craik. He earned his Bachelor of
Science degree from Uniata College, Huntingdon, PA, in
1936; his Master of Arts from the University of Kansas,
Lawrence, in 1938, and Doctor of Philosophy at the latter
in 1947.
He taught at Ranger High School and Ranger Junior College
1939-43, at University of Kansas 1945-47, at Howard College
in Birmingham, AL, 1947-50, and at the University of Corpus
Christi 1950-53. He had been at H-SU since 1953.
He was a past vice president of Texas Academy of Science and
past chairman of South Texas Academy of Science.
Dr. Craik, at the time of his death, was a member of Phi Sigma,
honorary biological fraternity; Sigma XI, science fraternity;
American Association for the Advancement of Science and Texas
Academy of Science.
A member of the First Baptist Church , Dr. Craik served as
Chairman of the church's Boy Scout committee until he became
ill.
He & his wife, Eva Young Craik, had four children: David Dale,
Robert Alan, Gary Charles and Philip Lee Craik.
