Location: Venus, Texas, is located in Johnson County in North Texas about 20 miles south of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex of North Texas. Mansfield, Midlothian, Maypearl, Lillian, and Alvarado are the towns nearest to Venus. The two major highways that intersect in town are Highways 67 & 157 where you will find the only stoplight in town. See Other Venus Pages (to the right) and our Mansfield and Midlothian Page, too. Population: Official population is only a thousand folks, but those who claim Venus as their home includes a sprawling rural/semi-rural unincorporated area surrounding the town itself. The picture at the top of the page is our Venus farm. Economics: While many Venus residents commute to the larger cities in the area, Venus does have a growing business sector and a prison. The railroads that stimulated the beginning of Venus's development also still roll through town, too. Public Services: Venus has it's own school district, police department, volunteer fire department and post office. See Helpful Phone Numbers. The Square: It is with great sadness that I must report that a fire this week (December 9, 1999) destroyed much of the historic town square. Many of the businesses previously listed on this page on the square were destroyed or damaged. See this Ft. Worth Star Telegram article. As you see, the Country Store and Discount Auto Parts businesses survived. Venus has an old-fashioned town square with a
gazebo (currently being renovated). Although the town square is
still being refurbished, new businesses are moving into the
historical district dating back to the early 20th century. This
place has real potential. A couple of film crews have even stopped
