Colin & Julienne Steele
In some way our call into missions started before we were born (Jeremiah 29:10). However, the first we knew of it was in 1975 when Colin attended a meeting where a missionary spoke about the needs of the world. Some months later verses from the Bible, spoken by Jesus, kept going around and around in his head. From the book of Acts "..you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." And from Matthews gospel: "..go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." At the same time Julienne was working for the Gideons where they were using the book Operation World for daily devotions. The great needs of the world overwhelmed her. Over a two week period it became increasingly obvious to both of us that Jesus was asking us to go into cross-cultural ministry. Then we had to decide to obey and consider the cost: to leave home and family and friends to go and work in another country.
Colin and Julienne served as missionaries in Portugal for several years. They now serve as Directors for WEC in the ACT. For more information about WEC or the Steeles, please see the WEC site.
