Pearl in the Mist Cover Pearl in the Mist

Fate whisked Ruby from a simple life in the Louisiana bayou. But her new riches bring more treachery than happiness...

Even after a year as a Dumas, Ruby still wonders at the splendor of the family's New Orleans mansion, and rejoices in the love of the father she had never known. But true happiness in her new home is as elusive as a swamp mist. Ruby must carefuly avoid a venomous enemy: her stepmother, Daphne, who cringes and sneers at her backwater upbringing. And Ruby's every effort to befriend her twin sister, Gisselle - especially since Gisselle's crippling accident - is answered with bitterness and vicious backstabbing. Pearl in the Mist Stepback

So idyllic Greenwood - the exclusive girls' boarding school that her father has chosen for his daughters' senior year - seems to promise some peace from the conniving Daphne, and maybe even a fresh start with Gisselle. But Ruby's kind isn't welcome at Greenwood, and the legendarily strict headmistress, Mrs. Ironwood, plots with her stepmother to make her life miserable. Meanwhile, Gisselle is on a mission to break every school rule, leaving Ruby to suffer the humiliating punishments. But Ruby doesn't lose hope - until a terrible tragedy leaves her alone in a world that never really wanted her. Ruby will have to summon every last ounce of her Cajun strength to reclaim her home, her future, and the happiness she once knew...

Do you have an opinion about who's in the picture? Write to me.

"You say the girl in the picture of Pearl in the Mist was Ruby, but it cannot be, since the novel clearly states that Ruby as well as Gisselle have red hair. I think the woman in the picture is a future image of Pearl, hence the title Pearl in the Mist. I am a redhead also, and in no lighting does my hair appear that dark."
- Crystal Lynn at SmiChrmd83@aol.com

"Regarding the people in the Pearl in the Mist novel, could that also not be Ruby and Beau in the background? Or do you think it more plausible for it to be Buck and Giselle?"
- Naomi at naomi@canada.com

"In Pearl in the Mist, the two people in the window could be Ruby and Beau and it could be a future Pearl standing."
- PANDORA5470@webtv.net

"If hair color is a reason that the person in the foreground is not Ruby, then it cannot be blond-haired Pearl. I agree with Gisselle and her boyfriend in the background, and Ruby, Louis, and Mrs. Clairborne in the foreground."
- Christie at http://www.vcandrews.org

"I think it has to be Ruby in the front on Pearl In the Mist, despite her hair color, because who ever illustrated it, doesn't always draw it right, as in the other books for example. Also, Ruby is wearing the heart necklace, so it has to be her, and no one else."
- Twiila5457@aol.com

"It has to be Ruby, because who else would be in the Clairborne Mansion? Only Ruby could, that was a big thing in the book. Why would they put her daughter there?"
- opiv@bellatlantic.net

"I also think it is Beau and Ruby in the window, and is Ruby in the foreground because the lighting can darken someone's hair color and appearance."
