“Lazy butt get out of bed!”
“Huh,” mumbled Grace.
“Get up,” ordered Kassidy.
“I’m up. What are you doing here?”
“We’ve come to kidnap you.”
“We’ve,” asked a puzzled Grace, finally opening her eyes to see Leighanne standing beside Kassidy.
“Yes,” replied Leighanne. “Hurry up and get dressed. We’ve got places to go and people to see.”
“Where’s AJ?”
“Gone. He ran out to get stuff done for the party. Now get up!”
Grace jumped in the shower. They were out of the house within a half-hour. First stop was breakfast at a small bagel shop Grace loved. From there they went for the fitting of Grace’s dress.
“Why are we here again?”
“AJ asked them to make a special dress for your graduation party. They have to do a fitting so it can be delivered in time for the party.”
“Oh OK.”
“Miss Johnson will you follow me,” requested the sales clerk.
After Grace had disappeared into the back, Leighanne whispered, “If we pull this off it will be a miracle.”
“Tell me about it! I'll be happy when I see her come out in the party dress. My big fear is they'll pull out the wedding dress for her to try on.”
“I hadn’t thought about that, but thanks for mentioning it. My stomach just twisted more.”
“It'll all work out,” affirmed Kassidy as Grace stepped from behind the curtain leading to the fitting rooms.
“Grace you’re beautiful,” exclaimed Leighanne.
“Thanks Leigh.”
She was wearing a long dress made of the thinnest crushed velvet. The color was a pale blue. The tiny straps rested on her shoulders while the dress hugged her body.
“I don’t know. I think it’s too tight and shows my chub.”
“Grace Johnson don’t ever say something like that again,” scolded Kassidy. “You look beautiful.”
Leigh agreed, “Grace that dress is perfect for your body and you don’t have chub to show. We will need to hose down AJ when he sees you.”
“I don’t know.”
“We do,” concluded Kassidy as the seamstress pinned up the hem and adjusted the straps.
While Grace changed, Kassidy talked with the designer of the dress who also designed the wedding dress. They had kept Vera Wang hidden from Grace. AJ had asked Leighanne to get in touch with Ms Wang about making the dress. She had also designed Leigh’s dress when she married Brian. He explained to Ms Wang that he needed a wedding dress and a regular dress as a cover. Kassidy had come up the idea that AJ tell Grace he wanted to have a dress made for her as a graduation present. It enabled them to get her measurements for Ms Wang without Grace suspecting a thing.
The three ladies arrived on time for their day of pampering at a local spa. As Kassidy explained, this was part of AJ’s graduation present to Grace and payback to Kassi and Leigh for helping with the "party". Grace said they probably needed it more than she did after putting up with AJ for party planning. After they were pampered beyond belief they headed to their final destination.
“Where are we going?”
“Denise’s house,” replied Kassidy.
“Why,” asked Grace.
“We need to get something.”
“Ok,” said a wary Grace.
Once they rushed Grace into the house, she asked, “what’s going on.”
“Grace, honey I need you to breathe for me,” hedged Kassidy as she directed the girl into Denise’s bedroom.
“Just tell me,” ordered Grace.
“We have a surprise for you. Actually, AJ does,” replied Leighanne.
“Grace Johnson today is your wedding day,” stated Kassi.
Grace didn’t move, squeak, blink or breathe.
“Grace breathe,” exclaimed Leighanne.
When Grace breathed, she started asking, “How did this happen? What about a dress? My parents? My family? My friends? What’s going on?”
“Grace you work on breathing and I'll answer you,” replied Kassidy.
“I’ll get her some water,” stated Leighanne before leaving the room.
“Now in order…AJ took you at your word about marrying him anytime if you didn’t have to plan it. That’s how it started, then he recruited Leigh and me to help. Your dress is on the way. The blue dress you tried on was a mock up of sorts. I mean you really are going to wear it, but on your honeymoon. I think you will like your dress. You pointed out things similar to me awhile back when I casually brought of the subject. Your parents, friends and family are all here for the party. AJ is probably loading them up to come over here as we speak, since it’s 6:00 now. Do you remember us talking about who you would want when you did get married?”
“Yeah.”
“Well those are your bridesmaids and stuff. And finally, you are getting married tonight. I think about covers all your questions,” finished Kassi.
“Here’s some water Grace. Also I found some people,” said Leighanne stepping out of the way of Grace’s family and bridesmaids.
They all hugged. AJ had family and guests gather at his house as planned. He explained what was happening, then loaded everyone up and moved them to Denise’s backyard where the wedding was taking place. Her parents asked if she was sure about this and she said yes. She was just so stunned. Her mother cried, but order Grace not to, because she needed to get ready. Leighanne agreed and pulled her over to do makeup and hair. As they all talked, Vera Wang showed up with Grace’s dresses. Kassidy handed out the wedding parties clothing for the party. Everyone had dressed casual for the party. In keeping with that motif, everyone got T-shirts with their title on it. At first, Grace’s mother was not pleased to be wearing a “Mother of the Bride” T-shirt, but Kassidy explained if they had given anymore warning to the family or guests it would have gotten to the press. Ms Johnson agreed she didn’t want a media circus at her daughters wedding. Grace’s dad made a quick exit so Grace and the rest of the ladies could get dressed. Leigh and Kassi helped attendants get dressed and Vera helped Grace. Grace’s sister was her Maid of Honor and her two best friends growing up were her bridesmaids.
Denise McLean walked in just as Vera finished putting Grace’s veil on. She and Grace’s mom both cried and told Grace how beautiful she was. She did look amazing. It was a classic Vera Wang, simple, elegant and stunning. The sleeveless dress was made of white, candlelight satin and had a subtle shimmer to it. The bodice was fitted and had pearls around the waist where it flared into a fuller skirt. Her veil was simple and lined with pearls. Leighanne had pulled her hair up into a chignon and dusted glitter on it. Her makeup was just dramatic enough to work for the cameras. Grace laughed when Leigh also put shimmer on her shoulders. They really did know her too well. She would carry a bouquet of white roses with blue bonnets interspersed. Andre Csillag, Backstreet’s official photographer, appeared at the door to take some candid shots and gathered Grace’s attendants around her. Her bridesmaids wore baby blue T-shirts. The two bridesmaids carried arrangements of blue bonnets and Grace’s sister’s arrangement had miniature white roses added to the blue bonnets.
After Andre was done photographing everyone, he left with Denise for AJ’s room. They laughed as they entered the room, because AJ, who was pacing, ran over to his mom the second she appeared.
“Is-is she here? Is she pissed? Sh-sh-she’s not going to marry me right? Did she say anything? Mom tell me!”
“Will you quiet down so I can? And stop twirling your tuxedo coat in your fingers,” she scolded.
“OK! OK! Tell me please,” he begged as he shoved his hands in his pants pockets to stop his nervous habit of twisting his clothes between his fingers.
“She’s here and dressed. Guess that means she’s not pissed and she’s going to marry you.”
“Thank God,” exclaimed AJ. “Oops sorry sir.”
“That’s quiet alright son. I think it's always good to thank God,” replied the minister with a smile.
“Cool. Mom where are you going?”
“Alex I need to get dressed. We have 20 minutes.”
“OK.”
Denise heard him exclaim ’20 minutes’ after she closed the door. As she touched up her makeup, Kassidy knocked.
“Best man are you ready to watch your baby get married?”
“OK stop that! I just finished my makeup. Besides I promised Alex I wouldn’t cry.”
“Yeah, I see you keeping that promise!”
“I know, but I can keep it for now. I want to thank you for helping him pull this off.”
“No problem. It’s for two of my little group of favorite people.”
“I am surprised you aren’t in the wedding party,” commented Denise, seeing the “Planner aka the Boss” T-shirt.
Kassidy laughed, “Grace just apologized for that very thing, but honestly I’m glad. I’m stressed enough without having to be up front.”
“I bet. Now tell me honestly, how do I look?”
“You look like the beautiful mother and best man who will be balling her eyes out in short time.”
Denise swatted at Kassidy as they left the bathroom. Kassidy went back to the bride’s room. She laughed because they had draped a sheet around Grace’s shoulders and her mother was feeding her some cheese and crackers. After breakfast none of them had eaten the rest of the day. Now Grace was less likely to pass out during the ceremony. She brushed her teeth. Leighanne did a final touch up of everyone’s makeup. It was time. Leigh made sure the coast was clear, before they brought Grace into the kitchen.
“Is AJ there,” asked Grace.
“No Johnny No Name showed up,” teased Kassidy.
“Don’t even,” warned Grace with a smile.
“It’s time,” reported Leighanne as she opened the sliding glass door and the attendants lined up.
“Hey Kassi,” whispered Grace.
“Yeah?”
“You rock!”
“So do you!”
The attendants stepped out while Tommy Smith, BSB Keyboardist, played an original piece of music. AJ was shaking his leg as he watched the girls walk down the make shift aisle in his mother’s backyard. He couldn’t look at his mom or he would lose it. Balling like a baby was not on the agenda. He wished he had his sunglasses to hide behind. It was cute to watch him look around the attendants trying to get a glimpse of Grace.
“OK your turn,” directed Kassidy to Grace and her father.
Grace took father’s arm and he said, “Sweetie you look so beautiful. I’m proud of you for accomplishing your goals. I love you.”
“I love you to daddy.”
They stepped in the doorway and Tommy started playing “Here Comes The Bride.” Grace looked at AJ. He was looking down at the ground, but when he looked up she was rewarded with a display of emotions played out on his face. The first was surprise, followed by awe and ending in love.
Grace was glad she had her father to hold on to, because her knees went weak the second they locked eyes. The day before his hair had been platinum blonde, but today it was all his natural color. He was in a surprisingly traditional black Armani Tuxedo with white shirt, vest and bow tie. He had a white rose in his lapel. He wore only his watch, bracelet, and diamond stud earrings.
To AJ it seemed as if Grace floated down the aisle to him. The gown was perfect for her. He knew Vera Wang would do a great job, but she exceeded his expectations. Grace glowed and he loved her more than he thought possible.
The ceremony began. Her father shook AJ’s hand before he placed his daughter’s hand in his. AJ watched Grace as she listened to minister. She would sneak glances at him then look back to the minister for fear of crying. Her sister took her bouquet and they exchanged their vows. AJ’s eyes welled up with tears as Grace said her vows. She was so honest and sincere. AJ cleared his throat and got through his. They exchanged rings and then the minister turned the floor over to AJ.
“Grace, Alexander has something he wants to say to you,” stated the Minister.
AJ took in a deep breath and looked deep into her eyes as he began, “I know you’re thinking, he sprang this wedding on me. Now does he expect me to come up with a speech? The answer is no. You don’t have to tell me how you feel about me. I see it everyday, in everything you do. You have accepted me in all my freakiness from day one. You are without a doubt the best thing that ever happened to me. Now I know for the rest of my life there will never be a day without you in it. Even if we aren’t in the same place you are with me. I will love you. I will cherish you. I will do everything within my power to make sure you know you are loved like no one else for the rest of our lives. You’ve always been my Pooh. Today you became my angel.”
Tears were streaming down Grace’s face by the time he had finished. He kissed her hand and a tear slid down his cheek.
The minister quietly said, “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Alexander you may kiss your wife.”
Alex tenderly kissed her and they turned to face the friends and family gathered. There was not a dry eye. The minister introduced them as Mr. and Mrs. Alexander James McLean and they exited to the house followed by the rest of the wedding party.
Once inside, Leighanne appeared to touch up Grace’s make up for some quick photos. Kassidy cleared the backyard out with Nick’s help and got everyone headed back to AJ’s. The wedding party stayed behind for pictures. They all laughed at the T-shirts everyone was wearing. AJ gave Kassidy all the credit, she had friends of a friend who had done the same thing when they got married. Everyone was happy they had pulled it off without the press getting wind of it. AJ had rented a tent, which was placed in his back yard. He had always said having a house on two acres would come in handy sometime.
Everyone was milling around when the wedding party arrived. AJ carried Grace in the front door then through the house to the tent. Dinner was served once they arrived. After the meal and toasts, the music began. The newlyweds enjoyed their friends and family. The cake was cut. The bouquet and garter belt was thrown. At 1 am, they left in a limo for the airport. Once on the plane, AJ informed Grace that in a few hours they would be in Spain. He had rented a villa for them to stay in. Grace settled in with AJ for the flight. At that moment she felt complete contentment. Life was good.
Chapter 53
AJ watched Grace sleep. They had arrived at the villa the day before. It was the same place BSB had rented when on Millennium Tour. He had always loved the place even though the paparazzi did take pictures the last time. Grace looked beautiful in the morning light. AJ smirked as he began to pull the sheet from her body. She sighed and curled up more, but did not wake. AJ's fingers slid down her arm and over her hip. He moved down in the bed and began placing soft kisses at the base of her spine. He kissed up the center of her back, when he reached the back of her neck he looked and saw a faint smile on her lips.
“Pooh wake up,” he whispered in a sing song tone.
“Why?”
“Because Mrs. McLean I want to make love to you.”
“Mr. McLean what if I don’t want you to?”
“You ready to play this game Pooh?”
Grace looked over her shoulder at him and asked, “What game?”
“The I’m going to make you beg me to make love to you game.”
“Alex,” said Grace in a wary tone.
“I guess you do,” he said before going to work.
Sitting straddle of her, he allowed her to feel his full weight and his excitement for her. She sighed as he began massaging her back. His fingers moved up into her hair, massaging her scalp. She was almost purring when she felt him nuzzle the back of her neck. As he moved his hands back down her back she felt him start to move on her. After a few minutes, he moved so he was between her legs. He chuckled as he watched her squirm. He positioned his body so he was moving against her but not enter her. She was moving with him. He didn’t know if he could hold out much longer. Her moans were driving him crazy.
“Alex.”
“What Pooh?”
“Alex.”
“Say it Pooh.”
“Alex!”
He leaned down against her ear and whispered, “Pooh you know what to say.”
“Please,” she moaned.
“That’s my Pooh,” growled AJ as he entered her.
Grace loved the feeling of being pinned to the bed. AJ’s movements continuously speeding up. He whispered things in her ear. Telling what he was feeling and how beautiful she was. A thin layer of sweet covered their bodies. AJ reached for her hands, closing them in his. As he felt Grace tightened on him he placed his mouth against the back of her neck and sucked the flesh into his mouth. This pushed Grace over the edge and she screamed his name, causing AJ to lose control. Afterwards he placed tiny kisses on her shoulder and the side of her face. They enjoyed the closeness for a few minutes.
“AJ?”
“What baby?”
“I’m hungry.”
“So am I. Let’s raid the kitchen.”
They ate breakfast and made plans for the day. AJ wanted to show her all the places he had visited when there on other trips. They walked through the nearby town. They were being complete tourists. Taking pictures and buying souvenirs. The town’s people made a fuss over them not because AJ was a Backstreet Boy, but because they were newlyweds. They shopped the fruit and vegetable market and had a picnic down on the dock behind the house. After lunch they took the jet skis out. After having their fill of the water and sun, they went in to dress for dinner.
They again headed into the town to a restaurant everyone had loved the last time. The owner gave them a private table. He also provided a wonderful wine to compliment their meal. After dinner they went back to the villa and sat out under the stars.
“Pooh I’m the happiest man alive.
“I’m the happiest woman. You know what Kassidy would say if she could hear us,” chuckled Grace.
“Eww Mush!”
“Yep.”
“That’s ok Kassi is happy for us.”
“Yes she is. She’s sneaky too. I can’t believe the three of you pulled this off.”
“Actually, it was mostly Kass and Leigh. I just got to say yeah or nay on things. They did all the work.”
“They did a great job. So did you.”
“It was easy.”
“Well thank you for making it wonderful,” replied Grace as she kissed him. Looking back up at the sky. “It’s so beautiful here.”
“Yeah,” sighed AJ.
The spent more time talking then made love under the stars. Finally, AJ carried Grace to bed. The remainder of their honeymoon was spent in much the same fashion. They reveled in their time together.
As soon as they returned home life would get hectic again. AJ was going back out on the road and Grace had interviews when a couple of hospitals and the Florida Chapter of the Music Therapist Association. AJ hadn’t said anything, but he really wished she would travel with him. He missed her so much when they were separated. However, he knew Grace would never be content just being the wife on the road. He needed to be strong enough to let her follow her own path.
They arrived home to find the house all in order. Kassidy and Denise had also stocked the refrigerator and put up the Christmas tree for them, but didn’t decorate it. The couple laughed when they found tabloids and other publications spread out on their bed. There was a note from Kassidy.
Hey! Hey! Newlyweds!!!
Welcome home! While you were off making like bunnies in wherever, we got to deal with the “Another Backstreet Bites The Dust” (everybody sing) media frenzy. I swear if I ever get married again I’m running off and doing it in secret. Actually you guys did pull that off. Andre and I poured over the wedding photos and released the one attached to the press. Also after you are done with your reading turn on the VCR. I think I got most of the TV reports for you. All the dogs are with Lesley. She said she wanted them. Pick them up tomorrow. Yes Grace I knew you were coming home today. LOL
Enough about y’all, we're all fine. Christmas shopping is done for me. Nick is out as we speak. Bet he gets mobbed. Hehehe. Maddie is having morning sickness from hell. Howie is babying her like we knew he would. Leigh says Thomas is fussy, because he’s cutting teeth. Now the dogs really want them to take that thing back. Kevin and Kristin have already left for a family Christmas with the Willitts. Um…Michael and family are good. Grace call your parents. There is going to be a new “Crow” Movie out starring DMX next month. If you’ve gotten this far then you have figured out I’m just babbling to drive you nuts. I know Boner wants to live up to his name and have his way with you on the magazines, but you're still reading this stupid note. Or as Bone would say the damn note! Guess I’m done for now. I will be calling every half-hour for the next couple of days to interrupt. Told you Bone paybacks are a bitch and that bitch goes by the name Kassidy. Hehehe. Oh yes I am evil. You’re still reading this? Go to bed!
Love ya,
Kassi
Grace squealed with laughter as AJ tossed her on top of the magazines as Kassidy had suggested. Later they actually read the articles. After fixing dinner and climbing back in bed they watched the tape. At the end Kassidy had added well wishes from everyone at the wedding. AJ and Grace knew they would treasure it forever.
The next day was spent decorating the tree and wrapping presents. They went to pick up the dogs from Lesley’s. They left all the Carter presents there. She was taking the twins down the next day, to Nick and Kassidy’s to spend Christmas with them.
Once home, the dogs could not understand why they were not allowed into the living room. They whined, because they could see the Christmas tree lights twinkling through the safety gates. Grace’s parents had left their presents for the couple with Denise before going home. As much as they would have loved to stay through Christmas their jobs just didn’t allow it. Grace called both of them. She would miss them, but she was happy to be spending Christmas with her husband. She also checked in with Maddie and Kassidy.
Christmas Eve, they attended midnight mass with Denise and all the Doroughs. It was a beautiful service. The next morning they got up and opened all their presents, then headed over to Denise’s to spend the day.
After AJ fell asleep that night, Grace lay beside him watching him sleep. She was amazed at how right it all felt. She had always wanted this and now she had it. She caressed the sided of AJ’s face and watched him rub his cheek against her hand in his sleep. She thanked God for giving her this man and this life. Her last thought as she drifted off to sleep was this was the man she was spending the rest of her life with and who would be the father of her children. She chuckled as she pictured baby Bones running around.
Chapter 54
“Merry Christmas!”
“Merry Christmas Nick. What time is it?”
“Um…7. Come on!”
“Coming,” mumbled Kassi.
“About time you guys got up,” greeted Aaron as they walked into the living room.
Angel said, “Don’t listen to him. He just got up.”
“So I gathered. The presents are still intact. Where’s Lesley," asked Kassidy.
“Asleep. Can I wake her up,” asked Aaron with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
“Sure. I’ll help,” replied Nick as he led the way into the kitchen.
Kassidy and Angel watched them run out of the kitchen and disappear down the hall. They counted to 10 together, before hearing the scream, followed by several pairs of feet coming back into the living room. The dogs were having a fit at the sliding glass door. Kassidy let them in and they went nuts. Nick and Aaron were in a heap on the floor and the dogs were trying to get in on the fun. Lesley stood in the doorway glowering at them.
“Merry Christmas Les,” greet Kassidy with a straight face.
“Merry Christmas Kassi. I hate your boyfriend and his brother.”
“Yes I know,” replied Kassi. “Come open a present it'll make you feel better.”
Angel was already under the tree dividing everything up. She handed Lesley her first present. Next were the presents for the dogs to keep them occupied. After the presents were handed out, everyone began opening them.
“Nick this is beautiful,” exclaimed Kassidy when she opened her last present.
“You like it?”
“I love it, but I’m afraid to wear it.”
“But ya gotta wear it,” he said.
Nick took the jewelry box out of her hands. He pulled the diamond tennis bracelet out and placed it around her wrist. She held it up to the light and watched the sparkle. No one had ever given her anything like this. She felt overwhelmed. The bracelet was one of about ten gifts Nick had given her. He had gotten as much pleasure watching her open them as she did getting them. She had also gotten him a number of gifts, but he had not opened the big one.
“Thank you Nicky.”
“Awww! Nicky,” teased the three younger siblings.
“Be quiet,” scolded Nick, only half-heartedly.
“Stay here. I have one more present,” said Kassidy, as she left the room.
She came back with an envelope. The others gather around as Nick took it from her. He examined the envelope. There was nothing written on it. He held it close to his ear and shook it, causing everyone to laugh.
“I swear I’m going to open it if you don’t,” stated Lesley.
“Alright already,” grumbled Nick.
He opened it. Pulling out a note he began to read it silently.
“Hello! Out loud doofus,” chided Angel.
“Oh! Sorry. Wait do you care Kassi?”
“No. Its fine.”
“OK…
Dear Nick,
Merry Christmas! I told you awhile back, I would make up for your 25th Birthday not being the best. Well here is the make up. I’m not telling you what is happening, but I do have some instructions for you.
1. Be ready to travel on 12/26.
2. That means you have to pack today.
3. Pack enough for a week.
4. No I’m not going with you.
5. Yes we will be together on New Years Eve.
6. If you don’t like this present then I don’t know you at all.
7. NO you will NOT get it out of me!
8. It is not what you’re thinking.
9. I know this is driving you nuts…deal with it. You will know tomorrow.
10. I love you…Have a blast!!!
Follow these instructions. You are leaving early tomorrow morning. You will know everything before you walk out the door.
Love,
Kassidy.
That’s it,” he finished.
“That’s it,” stated Kassidy.
“Do you guys know what’s going on?”
“I swear Nick we don’t,” replied Aaron.
“Who wants breakfast?”
“Me,” yelled Aaron.
Kassidy responded, “great! Go start making it.”
“Oh man!”
“Come on Aaron. Les and I'll help,” said Angel.
After they disappeared into the kitchen, Nick pulled Kassidy into his lap and said, “One more hint?”
“Nope.”
“Please?”
“Nope.”
Nick nuzzled her neck and whispered, “Kass you know you want to tell me.”
“No I don’t.”
“Yes you do,” he said again as he began to nibble on that special spot on her neck.
“Oh you are so not playing fair,” she said. “But I’m not telling you.”
“What if I said won’t make love to you tonight if you don’t?”
“I’d say that’s your decision. However Nicky remember, after tonight you are not going to see me for…oh say…4 days…think about it. I’m going to help with breakfast.”
Kassidy stood. Before walking away, she leaned down and kissed him soundly. With a smirk she let her hand drift down his body and caress him in a way that made him moan.
“Like I said Nicky the decision is yours,” she chuckled.
Nick groaned as he watched her bottom sway into the kitchen. He let his head fall back on the couch. She never played fair. He was dying to know what was happening the next day, but he knew Kassidy would never tell him. He also knew that if Kassidy wanted him she would have him. He could never resist her when she seduced him and God how he loved when she seduced him. He shook his head to clear it, then wandered out to the kitchen.
Nick did pack for his trip later in the day. His brother and sisters gave the couple space that night. Nick made the most of their time together. They made love into the early morning. Finally, falling asleep.
The next morning, Aaron, Angel, and Lesley were all back. They were just as curious as their big brother about Kassidy’s surprise gift. Kassidy answered the door, then headed back to the bedroom to wake up Nick.
She smiled when she walked into the room. Nick was sprawled out on his back. The sheet rested low on his hips. He looked amazing. She crawled onto the bed beside him.
Running her fingers through his hair, she whispered, “Nicky.”
“Hmmm,” he replied as he stirred.
“Baby its time to get up.”
“Kay,” he sighed as his eyes opened. “Morning beautiful.”
“Morning Handsome,” she replied with a smile and allowed him to pull her down for a kiss. “You ready for your surprise?”
“My surprise! I forgot.”
“Oh no,” teased Kassidy.
“Are you going to tell me anymore?”
“Yes I am. I know if I don’t tell you before he gets here you will flip and then be upset you didn’t act cool.”
“He? Tell me!”
“OK! Metallica.”
“What about them?”
“James Hetfield with be here in 45 minutes to get you.”
“What,” he exclaimed with his eyes bugging out.
“James Hetfield is coming to pick you up. You are going to hang with him for the next few days.”
“Really? Wow! How?”
“I read an article about them going into rehearsals this week to prepare for their next tour. I had our James contact their manager and get Hetfield’s number. You know one of those manager to manager things. I called James and asked about tickets and maybe hanging out the day of the concert to watch their sound check.”
“He agreed when this stranger called?”
“I’m not exactly a stranger. You introduced us at the concert he attended in LA. Anyway he suggested you come hang at rehearsals for a couple of days. Apparently, he thinks you cool for a boyband singer.”
“I can’t believe you did this for me! Thank you!”
“Welcome! Go shower.”
Nick jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom. He was so excited. Kassidy giggled as she watched. The doorbell rang. She got to it just as Aaron freaked.
“You’re James Hetfield!”
“And you’re not Nick!”
“Oh man. I sounded so lame. I’m Aaron, Nick’s brother.”
“Hey Aaron. Can I come in?”
“Yeah! Sorry.”
“No problem.”
“Hey James. I’m Kassidy.”
“Hey. I recognize you.”
“Cool. Come in. Nick’s not ready yet.”
“Yeah. I found the place faster than I expected.”
“Want some coffee or something?”
“Coffee’s cool.”
“I’ll get,” said Lesley. “I’m Lesley. Nick’s sister.”
“Hi Lesley. And you are?”
“I’m Angel.”
“Like the name. So is he packed?”
“Yes.”
“Does he know?”
“Pretty much.”
“Good.”
“Who else is going to be there?”
“Limp, Korn, Offspring.”
“OK you are naming off guys hostile to my guy and his group.”
“They'll behave. I’ll make sure of it.”
“Good, because I would hate to pay a visit and kick some stupid rocker dude ass.”
“That I would like to see, but not at Nick’s expense. I like Nick. And we’ve partied together so he’s cool. He’s not the first to come hang with us during rehearsals. Besides I’m merely returning the favor. They let us hang with them in their Villa in Spain for a week. It’s only fair he come hang with us.”
“I’m glad.”
“Here’s your coffee.”
“Thanks Lesley,” he smiled and watched her blush.
“Hey James,” greeted Nick as he walked in the room. His hair still wet.
“Howdy Nick. So you ready to come hang for a few days?”
“Oh yeah!”
“Say you’re good-byes and let’s hit the road.”
“Nick you so suck,” state Aaron as he hugged his brother.
“I know. You have Kassidy to thank.”
“And I don’t want to hear it,” warned Kassidy.
“Later Les.”
“Bye doofus.”
“Bye Angel.”
“Later Nick. Have fun!”
“I will.”
Nick turned to Kassidy, and James said, “Aaron grab Nick’s bags and you guys come with me.”
“How come,” asked Aaron.
“Because I don’t like audience when I say goodbye to my woman. Even if it is for only like a week and I’m sure Nick doesn’t either,” responded James.
“Thanks,” said Kassidy.
“Later Kassidy.”
Once they were alone, Nick said, “I can’t believe you did this for me.”
“I love you and this makes you happy. Of course I’m going to do it, but don’t expect a big birthday. I can’t come up with two big things this quick.”
“Not even a problem. I'll call you when we get to wherever we’re going.”
“Better. Don’t party too much.”
“Deal. See you in a few days.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too baby.”
Nick kissed her and they walked out to the car. He ran back to pet the dogs. Kassidy watched them disappear around the corner. The siblings all stayed to keep her company. She just prayed everything went OK. She knew it would hurt Nick if the other bands were mean to him. And she knew she would be kicking some rocker dude ass if he got hurt.
