Not exactly the way I envisioned my Varsity career beginning. We came out pumped up and after a big interception on Bandera's second drive by Derrick Meador to keep the Bulldogs from scoring, we took over at our own five yard line. We proceeded to drive to Bandera's five, where it looked like we were going to score for sure. Only an inopprotune interception stopped us at the five. After that, we played the rest of the first half unable to get into a groove. We went into the fieldhouse at the half, tied 0-0.
We picked up in the third where we left off, with a couple of big plays, but we were forced to punt on the opening drive of the third. When Bandera capitlized and went up 7-0 with about 5 minutes left in the third, it was a surprise to say the least. We went back on offense, but it was the same story, a couple of good plays, but then we had to punt. Bandera capitlized again in the third, with Blount making another amazing reception. There was still a whole quarter of fooball left, and I didn't want to give up. Wish I could say that for the rest of the team.
We couldn't get anything going again in the fourth, and if you ask me, most of the line just gave up. Bandera had the lead and started bringing heat, and Blake wasn't getting aywhere near the level of protection he needed. With hurried passes and way too many sacks, Blake didnt' have the time a quarterback needs. I'll take the responsibility for that right now, the line just broke down. Blount scored again for Bandera, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Being down 21-0 with five and a half minutes left in the game was too much for most of us, and on the sidelines I could see the fire leaving the hearts of the offense. The defense did a great job, but they didn't get any rest because the O didn't hold up our end of the deal and give them time to recover on the sidelines. When your offense goes three and out, the defense gets worn out pretty quickly.
Althought we lost, I still feel that we are going to have a very good season this year. If we improve just a little, we will do very big things. We have the talent, and even though I don't think that Friday showed it, I know my teammates, and I'm damned sure we have the heart. Floresville better look out next week, because they probably won't know what they're going to have to face come Friday.
