Talena's own Pegleg Free JavaScripts provided All images on these Pages are copyright Here is Talena's first Pegleg, its the first time that she owned one, and at first she was a bit apprehensive as she didn't know if she would be able to balance and walk with it. The new Pegleg that Jim created for her weighs in at only 33 ounces, and the cost without labour is only $45.00. The socket itself has been made by Jim in his garage, it is soft and smooth to touch, has 2 panels which are for expansion ( for those ladies whose weight fluctuates by 20 lbs ), it is a copy of Talena's old prosthesis which was designed as a suction socket but since it fits extremely well due to the expansion panels and is very light Jim was able to cut a hole in the bottom of the socket so no air bubbles can form, eliminating the need for a air valve and at the same time allowing air to cool the stump and if any sweating should occur the sweat could come out through the hole too. On the first day she wore it for about 5 hours without wanting to take it off, she trailed the Pegleg on stairs and had no problem, yes it takes a bit getting used to since it has no knee but that was no problem. As a added bonus we found out that the peg itself can extremely easy be removed and replaced, so for sitting on a desk with limited leg room off comes the Peg . Also if one considers the limited leg room between seats on a plane it would be ideal. These first photos are with Talena wearing it, since she would not allow Jim to take it home again, we will have to wait till we visit Jim and Jeri again so we can take some photos of the peg and the socket itself. |
