From the clashes
between the Indians and the white men, there was much bloodshed,
with many acts of violence from both sides. Then there was hostility
of the fighting along that area during the Revolutionary War.
Finally, the area was a hotbed of activity during the Civil War.
With all of this violence, it is only natural that the supernatural
made its own presence known, and there are many, many ghost stories
that have been told and retold down through the years.
People riding
alone in a buggy would come around a sharp bend in the road and
encounter an elderly lady dressed in a long black dress, wearing
a black hat, and holding a parasol. The old lady would hop in
the buggy, ride about a mile down the road, and then suddenly
disappear.
…. Although Clara
King couldn’t be positive, the remnants of the Harbison
cabin could have been the ones they discovered on the property
where they built their cabin. The large stones could have been
the ones used for the safe compartment by the chimney that eventually
served as a death chamber for the Harbison wife and child. The
screaming sounds that woke the Kings could have been the Harbison
child.
…. The next owner
kept Room 2D locked, never renting it out to anyone. It was only
used for storage, but items left there were frequently moved around
without any explanation. Eventually the door to Room 2D was paneled
over and the only trace of its existence is a small window on
the back side of the building. The window is boarded, but several
of the townspeople have sworn they have seen light shining through
the boards late at night.
…. Was there
a connection between whatever had frightened Lomax half to death,
the bones, and the feeling of icy fingers? The answer may still
be lurking in a closed off chamber, somewhere deep inside Lookout
Mountain.
… However,
beginning a few years after the war ended, and periodically ever
since, there have been people near Blanche who have been witnesses
to a strange phenomenon. To this day, it always occurs late on
a rainy night, but the people claim that they clearly hear sounds
of voices and marching in the distance.
