GHOSTS
OF THE THOUSAND ISLANDS
The Thousand
Island name is not an exaggeration. There are actually more than
a thousand islands of various sizes in an area of the St. Lawrence
River between the United States and Canada near the eastern shores
of Lake Ontario. These islands have been visited by early explorers,
utilized by pirates for hiding themselves and their stolen treasures,
used by rum-runners during Prohibition days, become luxury getaways
for the wealthy, and a popular tourist location. Many of these uses
are conducive to ghostly legends, and the area abounds with stories
of the supernatural. Pirates murdered and left behind to guard buried
treasure, deceased owners continuing to prowl secret passages in
castles, spurned lovers left behind or killed, and the untimely
deaths involved in the illegal whisky smuggling; what more could
a ghost want? Read about these and many more in The Ghosts of the
Thousand Islands.
