Route 430 ran daily between Reigate (Red Cross) and Redhill Station via South Park, Woodhatch and Earlswood. |

Route 431 ran between Orpington Station and Sevenoaks (Bus Station) via Goddington Lane, Chelsfield, Halstead, Knockholt Pound, Dunton Green and Riverhead. |
These “E” plates date from the days when the route ran daily but Sunday journeys had already been withdrawn by LT in the late 1960s. The “FARE STAGE” plate is somewhat less common. |
Route 431A provided just a few odd journeys between Orpington Station and Sevenoaks (Bus Station) via Green Street Green, Knockholt Station, Halstead, Knockholt Pound, Dunton Green and Riverhead (whereas the 431 ran via Chelsfield and Halstead). The route later passed to London Country Bus Services, then to Kentish Busthe A-suffix part eventually disappearingand the 431 is now operated by Arriva Kent & Sussex, running as a Monday to Saturday circular SevenoaksOtfordDunton GreenSevenoaks service with journeys in the opposite direction numbered 432. |
Route 431C was a works service from Knockholt Station to Fort Halstead which had disappeared by 1965. “C” suffix route numbers are much more difficult to find, and being just odd journeys would have had far fewer plates produced. |
Route 432 ran on Mondays to Saturdays between Guildford and Great Bookham via Merrow, West Clandon, Horsley, Effingham, Little Bookham and Bookham Station. The number is currently used for an Arriva Kent & Sussex circular SevenoaksDunton GreenOtfordSevenoaks service, with journeys in the opposite direction numbered 431 |
Route 433 ran from Ranmore (Dog Kennel Lane) to Coldharbour (Plough) via Dorking, and was operated by GS vehicles. When the route was withdrawn the number 433 was re-used for a local circular service in Horsham running via Roffey Corner and Littlehaven. |
Route 434 ran daily between Edenbridge and Crawley via Dormansland, East Grinstead, Kingscote, Turners Hill, Crawley Down, Copthorne and Three Bridges. Route 473 ran between Crawley (George) and Dormansland (Plough) but via Rowfant instead of Ridleys Corner and Copthorne, and came by much less frequently. This split plate is particularly unusual in not having a line to separate the two routes, and as with all split “E” plates is much rarer, as are Fare Stage plates. So, all in all, an astonishingly rare combination on this interesting plate representing two very long-established routes. |
Route 436 is a long-extablished route and ran between Staines (Church Street) and Guildford (Onslow Street Bus Station) via Chertsey, Addlestone, New Haw, Woodham, Sheerwater, Woking, Kingfield Green, Send and Burpham. It was for many years operated by RLH low-height double-deckers. Route 436A ran between Staines and Ripley (Post Office) via Chertsey, Addlestone, New Haw, Woodham, Sheerwater, Woking, Kingfield Green and Send. This “E” plate is notable for being an “ALIGHTING POINT ONLY” plate, which means it would have likely been produced for just a single stop. |
Route 437 ran between Woking Station and Weybridge (Lincoln Arms) via Maybury Inn, West Byfleet, Byfleet, New Haw and Addlestone. By 1968 it had been withdrawn beyond Addlestone. |
The 438 family of routes comprised just a few Monday to Friday peak hour journeys. Route 438 ran between Crawley (Bus Station) and East Grinstead via County Oak, Tinsley Green, Copthorne and Felbridge. This “E” plate once had an “A” suffix. However, in the days of London Country the 438A was renumbered to 438 and they probably ground off the suffix, presumably as this was simpler than making new plates. |

Route 439 ran from Redhill Station to Newdigate via Wray Common, Reigate, Leigh, Gadbrook (Cross Roads), Brockham, Dorking, North Holmwood, South Holmwood and Beare Green. By 1968 route 429 had been withdrawn and the 439 had replaced it through Newdigate, Parkgate and Gadbrook, thus providing a circular service west of the latter junction. | ||
