...» The History of Siu Loong Karate-do
Overview
Siu Loong Karate was established in 1994 by Sensei Derek Pollock. The term Siu Loong traditionally
means Little Dragon. The Siu Loong Karate-do is part of the National Karate Association of Scotland which is
affiliated to the World Karate Confederation (W.K.C) and the World Union of Karate-do Organizations
(W.U.K.O.) both of which serve as governing bodies for worldwide Karate of all styles and
backgrounds.
Background
At the outset of Siu Loong, the background in Shukokai Karate provided the fundamentals upon which
Siu Loong Karate-do based itself upon. While the Shukokai Karate elements are still practised, traditional
Shito-ryu Karate provides the basis for Siu Loong Karate-do. These traditional roots have been set by the
assistance and support of Master Sei Iwasa. Iwasa Sensei provides the instructors of Siu Loong Karate-do
with a deep understanding and sound knowledge of Shito-ryu Karate ensuring that they are are of the highest
calibre.

With a structured syllabus in operation, the instructors will aid you in achieving your goals in
Karate and will ensure that any additional queries are dealt with by giving you extra training and help.
Competition
The Siu Loong Karate-do is very active in the competition side of Karate. As well as practising the
traditional side of Karate, members are encourage to take part in the sport element present in competition
Karate.
As well as competiting locally, Siu Loong Karate-do members have competed at National and International level with
great success. Although the club is relatively small, we stop at no limits! The club has taken part in many junior, cadete and senior events.
Events include: the 3rd WKC World Championships, Aberdeen, Scotland. - the 3rd WKC. Junior World Cup, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. - the
4th WKC European Championships, Caorle, Italy. - the 4th WKC Junior World Cup, Darmstadt,
Germany. - the 5th WKC World Championships, Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro. - the WUKO European Championships, St Pölten, Austria. Through hard work
and dedication, the club have managed a Gold, and two Bronze at Junior World level. Most recently members from the club won a Silver and team Bronze at European level. The club hope to add more to that tally at all levels.
