International Airport ("TPA") serves Tampa, Florida. It
is located just five miles west of downtown Tampa on the east shore of

St. Petersburg -
Clearwater International Airport, located about 17 miles from downtown
Tampa, is a smaller airport which may be convenient for travelers using
some of the commuter airlines such as ATA, American Southeast, and USA3000.
How do I get to downtown
Tampa from the Tampa airport - and
back again?
Depending on mode of travel and current traffic
conditions, you should allow approximately 20-25 minutes to get to Downtown
Tampa or the Port of Tampa from Tampa International Airport.
Please make your own arrangements with other
attendees
to share rides in advance via the Penguin Winter Carnival 2005
online discussion group or in person during the meetings. Some local
residents may also be willing to help with rides. We will try
to have a message board on site to assist with your communications and
arrangements.

Tampa’s Amtrak Station offers strong north-south connections as well as
links to nationwide rail travel. Amtrak’s AutoTrain offers daily service
to passengers and vehicles traveling between Washington, D.C. and Orlando
and a major highway delivers drivers directly to Tampa in just over an
hour’s time. Amtrak is located in downtown Tampa at historic Tampa Union
Station. Union Station has recently been restored to its original use as an
active train station and vital transportation hub. The building serves as a
multi-mode transportation facility accessed by Amtrak trains, taxis and
HARTline buses. The site’s proximity to the waterfront allows for
convenient service to the cruise ship terminals. It also provides
automobile access to surrounding cities and communities by way of the
nearby interstate and expressway systems.

Holland America and Royal Caribbean. A fitting start or end to your Penguin Winter Carnival 2005

from Tampa International Airport. The Bus Stop is at the East end of the Red

The HART bus line route 96
"uptown-downtown connector" goes past the Marriott Residence Inn,
see map,
and connects with the streetcar lines at the Southern Transportation Plaza.
It runs Monday - Friday only, 6AM-6PM.
TAMPA STREETCARS
For easy transportation within Tampa, the TECO
Line Streetcar System offers 10 station stops along its 2.4-mile
route. Five stops are located in Tampa’s Channel District, four are in

and bus system that can be purchased on any streetcar costs $5.00.
