Now and Then

Here are some pictures comparing the artists of yesterday
with those of today. The differences in their clothing, apparel, their
attractiveness (or lack there of), and the attitude they display might help
suggest what it now takes to get media coverage, and suggest how
important visual image has become.

I've yet to see a picture of Jimmy Hendrix
wearing an Atticus t-shirt, a bullet-proff vest, sporting a skate-board, or
a pair of 'Air Force Ones'. He didn't have music videos showing off
Lexus's, his gold chains, or half-naked women, he didn't need to.
He had something else that gave him his credibility.
We called it talent.

Unfortunately, the word 'talent' has become near-extinct in
today's popular music. But as far as musicians go, those who got
by by their popular image will be soon forgotten. It is the legendary
musicians whose talent and originality added something to the world of music
that will be remembered for their contributions to the art,
and for their incredible talent.
