Nintendo 64 (1996)

Originally code-named Project Reality and was to be called the Ultra 64, this console was eventually released in Japan in mid-1996 as the Nintendo 64. Later that year it was released in America for $199.

The Nintendo 64 was a 32-bit console and as such had a fierce competition from other 32-bit consoles such as the Sony Playstation. The N64 used cartridges rather than CDs for the Playstation. The main difference is the loading time between the 2: CD loading time is much greater. The only disadvantage of cartridges is the inferior sound quality.

Yet again, Nintendo delivered on the games they created. Games such as Mario Kart and the James Bond classic Goldeneye, doing extremely well.

The Nintendo 64 was first released in grey, but other colours soon followed. The console was a big success, selling 30 million consoles worldwide.
