Lovell Family webpages

Our Lovell family has been in America for about three hundred and sixty-four years, only twenty-eight years less than the first settlers that landed at Jamestown. Our immigrant ancestor, the first Robert Lovell came over between 1635 and 1633 according to Nugent's, "Cavaliers and Pioneers." He is listed on lists of passengers that sailed with Francis Fowler in 1635 and in 1637, for which Francis received land in exchange for bringing these passengers to the colony. Our Lovell family settled in the Northern Neck of Virginia, which was to become known as Westmoreland County. This area has been called the Athens of America for the very roots of our Democracy and many of the leaders in our Revolution lived there and were instrumental in its inception. George Washington, James Monroe, Robert E. Lee, as well as our ancestors to name a few. Our Robert Lovell lived in an area called Bluff Point, a rounded point on the Potomac shore about a half a mile east of the west end of Colonial Beach, which Robert patented in 1670. It bordered the ancestors of James Monroe on one side and by George Washington's ancestors on the other. Our Lovell ancestors have fought in every war for the United States, including the Revolution. Robert Lovell signed the Leeds Town Resolves. Being known for their loyalty and believing that one is only as good as their word are family characteristics. Their occupations have been as varied as being ministers, farmers, business owners, and even to one being the mother of, "The Younger Boys," which makes them an interesting family to study.
