WELCOME to the Isbell family home page, that is. Come on in, stay awhile, and meet the folks.
And now a treat! From one of the ancestors on my Dad's side of family with history of the Stephens Family.
STEPHENS FAMILY HISTORY (Written by Emma Corinne Stephens)
The Neuse River Valley of North Carolina was opened up for settlement by the white people about 1712. An English young man by the name of Stephens worked his passage on a ship from some part of England to the shores of North Carolina. His descendants seemed to have lived in the Neuse River Valley until they left for Tennessee. This Stephens was probably a father or grandfather of our ancestor, John Stephens Sr.
John Stephens Sr. was born in North Carolina about 1750. He had fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes. He married a Miss Holt of Welch blood, who was dark and had very black hair. To this union was born one child, John Stephens Jr. This family lived in the vicinity of Smithfield and Raleigh North Carolina until about 1820 (1816 Wake Co. NC) It is believed John Stephens Sr. fought in the Battle of King's Mountain during the American Revolution. (Not positive)
John Stephens Jr. was born in (Wake Co.) North Carolina about 1776. He had fair complexion, blue eyes, and his mother's very dark or black hair. He was married twice, his first wife was Ghaskey Hartsfield. (Marr.31 Dec. 1795, Wake Co. N.C.) To this union was born seven sons and one daughter. These children were: Josiah; Jack; Wiley; Eli; Allen; John; Ransom and Sallie.
About 1816 John Stephens Jr., his wife, their eight children, his father and mother moved from the Neuse River Valley of North Carolina to Middle-Tennessee on the Duck River near Shelbyville. They settled on a 240 acre track of virgin land, that is, land left by the Indians. He made a home for all of them. About 1824, his first wife died and he went back to North Carolina and married (20 Aug 1825) Wake Co, N.C. Martha Ann Gulley, who was born Feb.4, 1796. He and his second wife came back to his home in Tennessee.

Most of the begatting is confusing to me. Hope it isn't to you!
