What are the stages of infection?

Blindness may result in the later stages of leprosy.
There are no definite stages of infect for leprosy. Generally, it takes four years for tuberculoid leprosy to manifest itself and eight years for lepromatous leprosy to manifest itself (see “Symptoms” page). At first, you may notice discoloration of the skin and a loss of sensitivity of your skin. Slowly, your nerves will deteriorate. Lumps may develop under your skin. As the disease progresses, the nerve damage will get worse. You may completely lose feeling in your limbs and, as a result of this, can easily damage them. The nerve damage can even lead to paralysis. There is also a possibility of blindness. Leprosy gets worse and worse if left untreated.
