Many bad things have occurred in my life
Some so terrible that it feels as if I've been stabbed with a knife
I've lost family and friends and the occasional heartbreak here and there
But thanks to the support of a certain someone, it's been pretty easy to bear

You have been there for me during my darkest times
When tragedies seem to repeat like sonnet rhymes
You were there for me when I needed someone to talk to
You kept me strong in situations I felt I couldn't go through

You bring a smile to my face when you walk in the door
But then again, whenever I see you, my jaw hits the floor
You have earned an eternal place in my heart
You have mended broken pieces that will never come apart

I am writing these words to thank you for doing everything you could
For being there for me when nobody else would
When I was depressed you made me feel alive inside
You gave me life when it felt as if my heart had died

Even though we will probably never be what I want us to be
The honor and privilege of being your friend is enough for me
