The Bourbon Class is a group of mostly repeat blooming, fragrant roses. They have a reputation for being prone to blackspot and for being vigorous plants, often with long, flexible canes, good to train as climbers or for pegging. Some forms, such as 'La Reine Victoria' show more of the China heritage, while others, like 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' exhibit more Damask-like features. The Bourbons originated from a cross between 'Old Blush' and 'Quatre Saisons' on the Ile de Bourbon (now called Reunion.) Seedlings known as 'Rose Edouard' were sent to M. Jacques in France, who was gardener to the Duc d'Orleans. Seedlings were also reported in India before the French import.
