Chapter 84

While Tyler was talking to Joey, her doctor called. Howie took the call for them and wrote down all the information. He hung up about the same time Tyler did.

Tyler handed the phone to Kryss and Kevin asked, "What did he have to say?"

"He’s busy but he’ll try to get here."

Kevin shook his head. "I can’t believe the bastard. Baby, are you..."

A contraction hit and Tyler cut him short as she squeezed his hand. He looked at his watch to check the time.

Sonja asked, "Are they closer?"

"No, still fifteen minutes," answered Kevin looking into Tyler’s eyes.

Howie said, "Sunshine, that was your doctor with the name of a doctor here. Her name is Dr. Edwards and she’s suppose to be the best on the East Coast. You need to go in and let her examine you as soon as possible."

Kevin didn’t take his eyes off Tyler as he said, "I’ll be there, baby. We need to let Billy know so we have security and we need to call management. We’ll have to postpone the show for tomorrow night."

"Kevin, don’t disappoint the fans," said Tyler. "Not for me."

"Tyler, there’s NO WAY I’m going onstage with you in labor."

Howie spoke up, "ME EITHER."

Nick, AJ, and Brian echoed their agreement and Brian said, "I think we’re all in agreement here, Tyler. As long as you’re in labor, there’s no show and I’m sure the fans will understand."

Kevin brushed her hair back. "Let’s call this doctor and get you in."

Kryss volunteered, "I’ll go get your bag, Tyler."

"I’ll call Billy," said AJ.

"I’ll handle management," said Brian.

Tyler looked at her friends. "Thank, guys."

Everyone chorused their replies and started getting ready for Tyler to go to the doctor. Kevin called Dr. Edwards while Tyler leaned her head back on the couch.

Nick was the only one who seemed outwardly nervous about the whole situation. He moved over to Tyler, sitting beside her and taking her hand in his. "Ty, are you going to be okay?"

Tyler leaned over to put her head on his shoulder and smiled softly, "I’m fine, Nicky. What about you? You look more nervous than Kevin."

"I am!"

"Nick, you’re the oldest in your family. You should be use to all this."

"Ever since Mama had Aaron and Angel and had complications, it’s kind of scary me."

"I’ll be fine, Nick. Kevin’s going with me to the doctor now and this Dr. Edwards is suppose to be the best."

Kevin hung up. "Let’s rock and roll, baby. She said she could see you as soon as we get there."

Nick helped Tyler up and everyone said their good-byes. Howie had decided to wait at the hotel until Kevin called to let them know something so he was the last to say good-bye to Tyler. He took her in his arms the best he could given that she was big now and hugged her close. He whispered, "I love you, Tyler. I’ll be there for you as soon as Kevin let’s us know."

With that, ‘Bull’, Billy, and Carlos came in to escort the couple to the doctor’s office. Tyler leaned on Kevin as they made their way down the hall amidst a shower of well wishes from the entire entourage. The news had spread quickly amongst the crew.

A couple hours later, Kevin and Tyler returned to the hotel to everyone’s surprise. Brian asked, "What are you doing here?"

Kevin shook his head as if to say ‘not now’ but said, "Dr. Edwards felt like it would be better if Tyler stayed here for a while so she can relax without worrying about the fans and so forth."

Tyler sat down on the couch and leaned back. She closed her eyes and asked, "Has Joey called?"

Everyone looked at each other and Kevin could tell what the answer was. He sat on the table in front of her, placing his hands on her knees. "Tyler, Joey is being a jackass and doesn’t deserve the effort you’re putting into worrying about him. You’ve done your part by telling him everything and that’s ALL you can do."

Tyler opened her eyes and looked into Kevin’s. "I don’t want to lose the baby to him."

"You aren’t going to lose this baby. I will move heaven and earth to make sure of that."

"We ALL will," said AJ.

Howie sat beside Tyler and put his arm around her. "Sunshine, why don’t you get some rest?"

"That’s a good idea, baby," agreed Kevin.

Tyler agreed and Kevin helped her to their room. He stayed with her to get her to go to sleep and then rejoined the others. He sat down heavily onto the couch and leaned back, running his hands through his hair. He looked exhausted and worried.

Howie asked, "What aren’t you saying in front of Tyler?"

"Her blood pressure is way too high and the baby isn’t in position."

"Why send her back here?" asked Brian. "What if something happens?"

"It’s going to be late, like eight, before they can operate."

"Operate?" questioned Kryss.

"Yeah, they’re going to have to do a Cesarean Section and they sent her back to relax."

"Does she know ANY of this?" asked Howie.

Kevin shook his head, "No. I thought it best not to tell her to keep her calm. The doctor and I told her that it would be easier to get her in without a lot of press coverage around seven. We’ve already filled out all the paperwork. Tyler’s really freaked out about Joey and I don’t know what else to do to keep her calm."

"Why is she so worried about that asshole?" asked AJ.

"She’s afraid of losing custody to him. The reality that Joey is the biological father and has legal rights is here. I’ll be perfectly honest, I’m just as scared as she is."

The gang sat around for the next couple hours just talking. Tyler slept most of the time and each of them checked in on her.

Around five-thirty, Kevin went to wake her up so they could head to the hospital. He sat beside her on the bed and brushed her hair back. "Baby, you need to wake up."

"I’m awake, Kevin," she said without opening her eyes. "The contractions are coming about every seven minutes."

"We need to get going then."

Kevin helped her up and they walked into the living room arm-in-arm. Tyler stopped suddenly and everyone looked up.

Nick’s eyes were wide as he said, "OH SHIT, Kevin!!"
