The Special Response Team

The Special Response Team is comprised of 15 officers, which is divided into 2 seperate entry teams of 7 officers. The SRT is lead by the SRT Commander with each entry team being lead by a Team Leader. The team's training consists of responding to crowd control, demonstrations, rapid entry response and any police action that requires the use of Special Weapons and Tactics or poses a significant threat to human life.

Becoming a team member

To become an SRT member an officer must be in good standing with the department and successfully complete the selection process. If selected, the officer must attend and successfully complete a California State POST approved Special Weapons and Tactics Course. The SWAT training courses that officers attended are presented by the following agencies: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles City Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the Goldenwest Police Academy-Criminal Justice Training Center in Orange County. Once the officer has completed the basic SWAT course, the officer is assigned to an entry team and is required to attend monthly training within the team. Each entry team is required to train monthly for a minimum of 8hrs. Additionally, team members are required to be available on a 24 hour basis for possible call outs.
