The first meditation I ever learned was taught to me by my cousin:
Sit comfortably; breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. When you are comfortable focus your mind on remembering a comforting sound like the ocean, a cat purring, etc. Allow yourself to drift, your mind still active but don't dwell on anything; let the bills, the lawn, and the car fly right out of your head. When you have reached the point of complete relaxation you may wish to do some of the things listed above or maybe something of your own. When you are ready, return your focus to your breathing and slowly pull yourself back into the real world.
