River Fishing Reports in Idaho 11/05/2015

-------------------------------------------------------

Bear River

No Reports.

-------------------------------------------------------

Big Lost River

No Reports.

-------------------------------------------------------

Big Wood River 07/18/2013

Anglers are catching fish along most of the accessible stretches of the river. Caddis and PMD hatches are plentiful. Size #14-18 flies are a good choice. NOTE: The Idaho Fish and Game has issued a salvage order for the Richfield Canal and the Big Wood River downstream from the Richfield Canal headgate. The Magic Reservoir Dam was shut off June 27. Because of drought and poor runoff, demand for irrigation water has exceeded the reservoir capacity. Officials anticipate the fish in the Big Wood River below the Richfield Canal headgate and within the Richfield Canal will be killed as the water level drops. Therefore, effective July 1, bag, possession and size limits will be removed on Big Wood River downstream from the Richfield Canal Diversion, the Richfield Canal downstream to the Gooding County line and in the Richfield and Lincoln Canal systems. Fish may be taken by any method except firearms, explosives, chemicals or electric current from July 1 through November 1. For more information please go to the Idaho Fish & Game web site.

-------------------------------------------------------

Blackfoot River

No Reports.

-------------------------------------------------------

Boise River 11/05/2015

The flows remain about normal and even with our cold blustery weather fishing should continue to be fair, especially for recently stocked trout. Anglers have been casting small spinners, but both wet and dry fly patterns or drifting bait down the ends of the riffles into the deeper pools will also catch fish.

Middle Fork of the Boise River 01/08/2015

No Report!

South Fork of the Boise River 03/05/2015

Fly fishermen continue dragging nymphs and casting to rising fish. Most are using tiny #20-24 midge patterns or #18-20 Blue Winged Olive imitations. Most of the fish are being caught with small streamers or larger nymphs. Flows are still running around 300 cfs. which is good for wading and casting to feeding fish. The South Fork is also be a great fishery for whitefish which can also be caught using nymphs like a #16 Prince Nymph.

------------------------------------------------------

There are still plenty of salmon to go around and still lots of places to catch them on the Clearwater system. The upper Clearwater between the Middle Fork and the South Fork including the Lochsa and Pahsimeroi River are still putting out a few fish. Be sure and check the latest bag limit restrictions because some strethces are jacks only.

South Fork Clearwater 07/23/2015

Anglers fishing the South Fork are only catching a few fish because fishing is not anything like it was.

-------------------------------------------------------

Coeur d'Alene River 09/24/2008

The Coeur d'Alene River is still fishing like a summer fishery--early mornings and late evenings are the ticket. Floating the lower river has been producing as well as wading some of the higher stretches. Mid-river during midday has seen quite the increase of recreational floaters. Hoppers, ants, beattles, PMD's and caddis have all been working along with your favorite attractor pattern.

-------------------------------------------------------

Gallitin River

The Gallatin is now in great shape. Lots of Caddis, PMDs, Yellow Sallies, small hoppers, Royal Wulffs and Humpies. The biting flies are starting to improve but have a headnet just in case.

------------------------------------------------------

Hells Canyon on the Snake River 08/06/2015

Hells Canyon fishing below the dam is closed, but between the dam and Oxbow it's still open until May 31st. There may actually be a few fish there, if you know where to look.

-------------------------------------------------------

Little Salmon River 08/06/2015

Steelhead fishing is still fair and since this and the Snake River between Hells Canyon Dam and Oxbow Dam are the only places left open, if you still need a steelhead fix then this is your place. Most anglers are drifting bait or corkies and yarn.

Lower Salmon River 08/06/2015

Closed!

Upper Salmon River 08/06/2015

Closed!

------------------------------------------------------

Little Wood River 06/04/2009

Water flows are way up but a few anglers are still catching a few brown trout in the deeper pools upstream to the confluence with Silver Creek. The best times to fish are early mornings and late evenings, but when the sun is high in sky fish deep in the heat.

------------------------------------------------------

Madison River

The flows are still just below 30 cfs., which is great for fishing but the ice is starting to form again. The ice shouldn't be too much of a problem but the cold weather will slow bug and fish activity. Look for a few BWO's but mostly midges during the hottest part of the day. A simple Zebra Midge or Beadhead Pheasant Tail dropper under a dry can be a good combination this time of year. Streamer fishing can also be productive but seems to work best in low light or cloudy conditions.

------------------------------------------------------

Malad River 03/22/2012

This is a great little winter fishery for smaller trout. Take some dry flies, you will be surprised how well these fish will take them.

------------------------------------------------------

Owyhee River 10/01/2015

The river flows are still hovering around 125 cfs. which is normal for this time of year. The fishing should continue to get better with the coming of cooler mornings. There are still a few trico's and plenty of midges coming off along with some PMD's, BWO's as well as callibaetis showing mostly later in the morning and then again towards evening. Next week is forecast to be cooler so look for fewer hatches which actually could make the fish hungrier. If you go try fishing a dry fly terrestrial pattern, PMD or BWO above a midge dropper imitation like a #20-22 Griffith's Gnat or Zebra Midge pattern.

------------------------------------------------------

Payette River 07/18/2013

Middle Fork

The river's stocked and should be fishing fairly well, especially early and late in the day. Look for good bug hatches and terrestrials.

--------------------------------------------------------

Portneuf River 10/23/2008

The Portneuf River is low and clear fish are spooky.

------------------------------------------------------

Silver Creek 08/14/2014

The Trico hatch is best in the morning but appear throughout the day along with plenty of tiny BWO's in the morning along the creek and speckled Duns are coming off midday in the stillwater. Evening still brings such a mix of bugs you can't tell where to cast with what! Don't over look fishing ants or even small hoppers if you can get a calm day and damsel flies are working as well. Keep in mind, this is Silver Creek, long light leaders are the ticket here, and of course plenty of patience and perseverance.

------------------------------------------------------

South Fork of the Salmon River (East of Cascade) 05/28/2015

Closed until June 19th.

------------------------------------------------------

Snake River (below C. J. Strike & Swan Falls Dam) - Boise River (below Lucky Peak & Arrowrock Dam) 10/01/2015

The river flows continue to be low for this time of year which helps concentrate the fish but the moss and aquatic weeds are still a problem in some stretches of the river. However the bass are still fairly active and there are a few catfish still biting. You'll find them in open back eddies or along the river channel and in between the weedlines. Bass are taking plastics but don't hesitate to toss spinners or even topwater, especially early or late in the day. Again, catfish aren't that picky, worms, chicken livers, store bought stinkbait or your own concoction will all catch fish.
