Miss Margaret Catherine Groppel

Margaret Catherine Groppel, 15, died at the home of her uncle, George Haushalter, in Jerseyville, September 14. Funeral from Evangelical Church. Rev J Fred Mueller serving.

Mrs. Frances Matilda (Groppel) Dabbs

Frances Matilda (Groppel) Dabbs, born 16-10-1896, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 04-09-1970 buried Oak Grove cemetery. Frances Matilda Dabbs, 73 years, 10 months, 18 days, wife of Arthur W. Dabbs, died at the family home on Rural Route 3, Jerseyville in Otter Creek Township, Friday am September 4, following a period of ill health. Final rites for Mrs. Dabbs were held Sunday afternoon at 2 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. W. Louis Purcell, pastor of United Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs Dabbs was a daughter of the late Henry & Catherine (Haushalter) Groppel and was born in Jerseyville October 16, 1896.

Surviving her in addition to her husband are 1 daughter, Mrs. Keith (Loretta) Martin of Springfield, 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Harold (Lila) Blackorby of Jerseyville; 1 step-son, Orville Dabbs of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs. Edward Schallenberg of Brighton; 4 half-brothers, John Horn of Waverly, Iowa, George Horn of East St. Louis, Arthur Horn of Detroit, Michigan, and Phillip Horn of Taylor, Michigan; 3 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-g-grandchildren.

Arthur W. Dabbs

Arthur W. Dabbs, born 20-12-1892, Jersey County, Illinois, died 10-11-1980, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Arthur W. Dabbs, 87, a retired farmer-carpenter of Route 3 Jerseyville died November 10, at Jersey Community hospital. The son of the late Linley & Rosetta (Johnson) Dabbs, he was born in Jersey County, December 20, 1892.

His survivors are 1 Daughter, Lila Blackorby, and 1 son, Orville Dabbs of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren and 11 g-g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Lora Reed, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.

Orville C. Dabbs

Orville C. Dabbs, 85, died at 10:17 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home. Born June 5, 1915, in Fieldon, he was a son of the late Arthur and Lora (Reed) Dabbs. A crane inspector for Laclede Steel Co. in Alton, he retired in 1974. He was also a self-employed lawn mower repairman for more than 25 years and was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695. He married the former Mildred K. Schaake Dec.5, 1936, at the Fieldon Evangelical and Reform Church. She died Aug. 15, 1995.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Donald Little of Jerseyville; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Dabbs of Jerseyville; six grandsons, Robert, James and Randall Little and Brady, Brian and Brett Dabbs; two great-granddaughters, Kourtney March and Alexis Dabbs; and a sister, Lila Blackorby of Jerseyville. A son, Darrell Dabbs, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, where he was a member. The Rev. John Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Peace United Church of Christ.

Mrs Lila Rose Blackorby

Lila Rose Blackorby, 87, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 17, 1917, in the Otter Creek Township portion of Jersey County, one of two children of Arthur W. and Lora (Reed) Dabbs. She married Cpl. Clyde M. Reddish, and they were married for three years before he became a casualty of World War II. She married Harold Blackorby on Sept. 30, 1946, in Greenville, and they shared a marriage that spanned 50 years before his death June 4, 1997.

Educated in the Jersey County country schools, her early employment included the International Shoe factory and Inman's Department Store, both in Jerseyville. She also served as the Welcome Wagon hostess for Jerseyville and Wood River. Her true career enjoyment was fulfilled as the chief deputy recorder of deeds in the Jersey County Clerk's Office, where she served for 17 years with Linda Crotchett. Her many memberships included the First United Methodist Church of Jerseyville, Jersey County Republican organizations and the Jersey Community Hospital Volunteers. She was especially proud to be listed in the "Who's Who in American Politics" and receiving the charter for the first Cub Scout pack in Jerseyville, which was Pack 59 in 1953.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Jo and Paul Wheaton of Wood River; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Neal and Laura Blackorby of Fort Smith, Ark., and Harold R. and Donna Blackorby of Hartford; 10 grandchildren, David Jr., Paige and Barton Blackorby, Bradley and his wife, Linda Wheaton, Kelly and her husband, Tom Hebel, Paula Jo and her husband, Steve Bollini, Deena and her husband, Jerry Cates, Denise and her husband, Steve Gray, Harold R. Blackorby III, and Lois and her husband, James Eagleson; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Wheaton, Timothy Wiemers, Justin and Shane Bollini, Cody Cates and Christiana and Colin Gray; her nieces and nephews, Carol and Donald Little, both of Jerseyville; six great-nephews; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Stephen A. Jackson; her only brother and his wife, Orville and Mildred Dabbs; and a nephew, Darrell Dabbs.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Mark Meyers and her son, the Rev. Harold R. Blackorby Jr., will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the activity department at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Harmon (Herman) Groppel

Harmon (Herman) Groppel, 58, of Rosedale township, formerly highway commissioner d. 5 miles south of Fieldon of Brights disease. Funeral in Grafton burial at IOOF cemetery. He was born March 18, 1846 at Beidefeld, Westfalen, Germany.

He came to the US May 26, 1856 and later married Mrs Louisa Burgermeyer. He had had a notable public career including: school director many times and served 3 years as commissioner of highways during which time he was treasurer of the board. Funeral from German Lutheran church. He leaves his widow and 6 children and 3 step children. He was preceded in death by 3 children.

Fritz Groppel

Fritz Groppel, 62, died at his home northwest of Fieldon, following an illness of 2 years. He leaves his widow; 10 Daughters, Mrs Wm Egelhoff, Mrs Frank Handler, Mrs Katie Hagen, Mrs Alfreda Isringhausen, Mrs Fred I Sringhausen, Mrs James O'donnell, Mrs Clifton Cunningham, Miss Tessie Groppel, all of Jersey County, Mrs Earl Guess, Carrollton and Mrs Henry Steiner, Chesterfield; 3 sons, Henry, Charles and August of Jersey County; 2 brothers, Wm and Louis of Jerseyville. Funeral from Fieldon Evangelical church with Rev C R Hempel. Burial in Gunterman Cemetery.

Mrs. Freda Gertrude Groppel

Freda Gertrude Groppel, 73, wife of former Mayor Clemmens G Groppel, Sr, of Jerseyville, d. March 9, 1955 at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. She had been ill for an extended period and a patient for 5 days. Born in Jersey county, March 16, 1882, a daughter of the late George & Margaretha (Horn) Kessler.

In addition her husband, survivors are 2 daughters, Mrs Robert Miller, Jerseyville and Mrs Otis Cooper, Fieldon; 1 son, Clemmons, Jr, Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs Louis Krueger, Fieldon and Mrs Louisa Haushalter, Blue Island and 1 brother, George Kessler of Fieldon. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 1 grandchild.

She was a member of the Church of Peace and Steelman Camp, Royal Neighbors of America. Funeral services were held March 11 at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev William D. Stickney, Pastor of the Church of Peace, Jerseyville officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Frank A Groppel

Frank A Groppel, 75, retired farmer and former custodian at Pere Marquette State Park for 13 years, d. June 23, at Jersey County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for 1 day. He was a son of the late Herman & Louise (Trauncih) Groppel, and was born at Fieldon on January 23, 1890. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Senior Citizens, Jerseyville, Grafton Lodge #318 Order Eastern Star of which he was past patron, and Fieldon Lodge #592 AF & AM.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs Matilda (Isringhausen) Groppel of Jerseyville, 2 sons, Howard F Groppel, Alton and Edgar J Groppel, Wood River, and 5 grandchildren. Visitation at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville where Masonic rites were conducted by Fieldon Lodge. Rev H O Renken officiated at the services at funeral home and interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park.

Oscar H Groppel

Oscar H Groppel, 79, died at Jersey County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for a few days. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First United Presbyterian church, officiated at the service, and burial was in Carrollton cemetery. The retired farmer of Fieldon, was the son of the Late Mr & Mrs Herman Groppel and was born in Rosedale township. Surviving Mr Groppel are his widow, Mrs Ethel Mae Groppel, and 1 son, Truman Groppel.

Charles H Groppel

Charles H Groppel, 80, resident of Rosedale township, died at Jersey County Memorial hospital where he had moved earlier. He was a son of the late Harmon & Louisa (Trauncih) Groppel and was born in Jersey county on October 15, 1879. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Hettie L Groppel of Rosedale, 2 daughters, Mrs William Gilman and Miss Edna Groppel of Fieldon; 2 sons, Raymond and Robert of Fieldon; 10 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Oscar Groppel of Fieldon and Frank Groppel of Jerseyville. One Son Walter Edward Groppel, d. in infancy.

Mr Groppel was a brother of the late Louis E Groppel and Wm J Groppel. He was a member of Fieldon UCC where final rites were held December 30, with Rev Alton Loar officiating. Interment was in Fieldon cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville.

Mrs. Hettie Louise Groppel

Hettie Louise Groppel, 92, of Fieldon d. February 3 at Jersey County Memorial hospital. Funeral services were held at Fieldon UCC with Rev Robert Broeder officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to church building fund. She was born April 14, 1887 in Rosedale township, a daughter of John & Eliza (Haller) Isringhausen.

She is survived by 2 sons, Raymond, Jerseyville and Robert H of Fieldon; 2 daughters, Edna Groppel and Naomi Gillman of Fieldon; 4 sisters, Matilda Groppel and Stella Kanallakan, Jerseyville, Freda Morris and Tessie Ashlock, Wood River; 10 grandchildren; 21 g-grandchildren and 2 g-g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H Groppel who d. December 27, 1959, 1 son, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Miss Edna C Groppel

Edna C Groppel, 71, of Hardin, formerly of Fieldon, d. February 3 at Greenwood Manor nursing home, Jerseyville. She was born June 26, 1912 in Fieldon the daughter of the late Charles H & Hettie L (Isringhausen) Groppel and was a member of Fieldon UCC. Services were held at Fieldon UCC with Rev Robert Broeder officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Raymond Groppel, Jerseyville and Robert Groppel of Fieldon; and 1 sister, Naomi Gilman, Jerseyville. Arrangements at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to her church.

Mrs. Jewell Susan Groppel

Jewell Susan Groppel, 50, wife of Raymond Groppel, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph hospital as a result of an accident. She was struck and killed by an auto as she attempted to cross highway 67, in front of her home. Her daughter Judy, 16, who was with her escaped injury. Mrs Groppel had lived at the Godfrey area home for 4 years and prior to that in Jersey county. She was born in Jersey county on September 1, 1914, a daughter of the Late Mr & Mrs Henry McAdams. She was a married in 1934 to Raymond Groppel.

Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters, Judy, and Mrs Agnes Cates, Humbert Road; 2 sons, Harold T, Jerseyville and Stanley, at home; 3 sisters, Mrs Maudie Doris, Alton; Mrs Almeda Engel, Greenfield, ND Mrs Velma Sconce, Grafton and 1 brother, Henry Clay McAdams, Otterville. Her parents and 1 sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Burial in Fieldon cemetery.

Raymond Charles Groppel

Raymond Charles Groppel, 93, died peacefully at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born in Rosedale on Sept. 28, 1907, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Hettwick Louisa Amelia (Isringhausen) Groppel. Growing up in Rosedale, he farmed in the area as a young man until around 1945 when he opened a grocery/gas business in Rosedale. He and his wife operated the store for a few years before he began his career at Olin Corp. where he worked in the Metallic Manufacturing department, retiring in 1963. He married the former Jewell Susan McAdams on Feb. 28, 1934, in Wood River. They were married 30 years before their marriage ended tragically when she was killed in an accident on Dec. 7, 1964. He later married Adolia (Hagen) Ruyle on April 26, 1981, in Jerseyville. She died July 7, 1994.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Agnes A. and Ralph Cates of Alton, Harold T. "Ted" and Wanda Groppel of Jerseyville, Dr. Stanley and Dr. Carol Groppel of Clarksville, Tenn., and Judy S. and the Rev. John Hartleroad of Metropolis; a stepson and his wife, Donald and Bertha Ruyle and their families of Kankakee; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert H. and Ruth Groppel of Jerseyville; and a sister, Naomi Gilman of Jerseyville. A sister, Edna Groppel and a brother, Edward Groppel, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Father William Hembrow, assisted by the Rev. John Hartleroad, Groppel's son-in-law, will officiate. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Jewell, in the Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the National Parkinson Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.

Robert H. Groppel

, 79, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis County. He was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Rosedale, the son of the late Charles and Hettwick Louisa Amelia (Isringhausen) Groppel. He grew up and lived in the Rosedale area all his life, owning and operating his own grain farm for more than 60 years, retiring in 1986. After his retirement, he and his wife continued to live on the farm until the flood of 1993 forced them to move to Jerseyville. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed many activities, including hunting, golfing and any kind of sport. He married the former Ruth Flowers Sept. 8, 1945, at the Fieldon United Church of Christ. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Robert Dwayne Groppel of Jerseyville; two grandchildren, Michelle Ann and Marcus Robert Groppel; one sister, Naomi Gilman of Jerseyville; a sister-in-law, Delores Conroy of Newport News, Va.; a brother-in-law, Robert Flowers of Godfrey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Groppel; a brother, Raymond Groppel; and an infant brother, Edward Groppel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, where Groppel was very active and served on many committees. The Rev. Kurt Simon will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Fieldon Cemetery, of which he was past president of the cemetery board. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ Building Fund.

William David "Bill" Gilman

William David "Bill" Gilman, 73, died December 15, 1990 at Jersey County Memorial hospital. Born in Elvins, MO he was the son of the Late George S & Mary Louise (Usher) Gilman. He was a past Master at Fieldon Masonic Temple 592, a member of Shrine and Scottish Rights, past Pres of Community Unit District 100 School Board, Honorary Chapter Farmer of Jersey County FFA, Member of Ag Stagilization Conservation and a self employed farmer.

He married Naomi (Gropple) Gilman September 11, 1940, in Fieldon and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Linda King of Jerseyville; 4 sons, Carl and Robert of Fieldon, Roger of Hardin and Fred of Kampsville; 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 2 step g-grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Leoria Short, Columbus, MO and Priscilla Devine of Florissanst, MO; 2 brothers, Therain Gilman of Jerseyville and Gerald Gilman of Edwardsville; and 1 step sister, Bernice Poleet of Elvis. Preceding him in death were 2 brothers, Clyde and Willard Gilman; and 1 sister, Virginia Catherine Stevens.

Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Masonic services were held. Funeral services were at funeral home with Revs Rick Francis and John Gaydos officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to Shriner Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis.

Mrs. Naomi Gilman

Naomi Gilman, 87, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, at her home. Born June 12, 1918, in Fieldon, she was one of three children of Charles H. and Hettie (Isringhausen) Groppel. She married William O. Gilman on Sept. 11, 1940, in Fieldon. They shared 50 years together before his death on Dec. 15, 1990. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, she dedicated herself to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and spent her adult life caring for her children and assisting her husband on their farm in the Fieldon area. After retirement in 1980, they moved to Jerseyville.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry King of Jerseyville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Jean Gilman of Fieldon, Roger and Barbara Gilman of Hardin, Robert and DeeDee Gilman of Jerseyville and Frederick and Mary Gilman of Michael; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Heather Gilman of Hardin, Julie and Rex Schofield of Jerseyville, Susan and Kevin Ayers of Jerseyville, Kristy and Mark Baalman of Hardin, Jayson and Jenny King of Jerseyville, Jamie and Brian Anderson of Godfrey,David and Renee Gilman of Fieldon and Charles and Ann Gilman of Hardin; and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Tony Gilman, who was the first American killed during the Kosovo peacekeeping mission; and two brothers, Raymond and Robert Groppel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County or the Fieldon United Church of Christ building fund, where she was a longtime member.

Mrs. Christena R. Kirchner

Died 03-11-1983. Democrat News, 8 November 1983: services for Christena R. Kirchner, 79 , of Jerseyville were conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist church with the Revs. V. Clay Noah, Jr. And John Wilson officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She died at 4:15 am on 3 November at Washington Christian Village, Washington, Illinois. She was born 4 October 1904 in Jerseyville, daughter of the Late Asa and Catherine Weisner Norris.

She is survived by her Husband, Walter A. Kirchner whom she married 28 May 1927 in Jerseyville; one daughter, Ruth Walls of East Peoria; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. The First Baptist church of Jerseyville of which she was a member was named as a memorial. Gubser Funeral Home arrangements.

Walter A. Kirchner

Died 04-02-1992. Unknown newspaper, 4 February 1992: Quincy - Former Jerseyville resident, Walter A. Kirchner, 91, died at 5:45 am today, 4 February 1992 at Sunset Home in Quincy. He was a retired self-employed painter. Born on 24 June 1900 in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Alvena (Hooper) Kirchner. On 28 May 1927 in Jerseyville, he married the former Christena R. Norris. She died 3 November 1983.

Surviving are a daughter, Ruth E. Walls of Decatur, Georgia, two grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at noon Thursday at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. The Revs. Leland and David Walls will officiate. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist church of Jerseyville, where he was a member, or to the Sunset Home, 418 Washington St., Quincy, Illinois 62301. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.

William Henry Kirchner

Died 20-03-1964. Unknown newspaper, 26 March 1964: "Wm. Kirchner of Otterville died Friday" - William Henry Kirchner, a retired farmer of Otterville, died at his home at eight o'clock Friday evening, March 20. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Otterville Baptist church with Rev. Vale Walkington of Otterville officiating. Burial was in the Noble cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home prior to the service.

Mr. Kirchner, a lifelong resident of Jersey County, was born 7 February 1882, a son of the late Charles and Alvena Hooper Kirchner. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ida L. Kirchner; one son, Lloyd Kirchner of Jerseyville; three grandsons; one great grandson,; one brother, Walter Kirchner of Jerseyville, and one sister, Mrs. Louise Wock of Jerseyville. The decedent was a member of the Otterville Baptist church where the funeral services were held.

Mrs. Myrtle I. Cox

Myrtle I. Cox, 84, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday, June 15, 1992 at Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville. Born on Aug. 17, 1907, in Ridgeway, she was the daughter of the late Theo and Daisy (Barandon) Sauls. On Aug. 28, 1926, in East Alton, she married John W. Cox. Surviving are her husband; a son, Harold E. Cox of Hardin; nine grandchildren; and four brothers, Brice E. Sauls of Davenport Iowa, Theo Sauld Jr. of Sun City, Ariz., and Don Suals of Chief Land, Fla.

She was preceded in death by two sons, WIlliam and Robert Cox; three brothers and three sisters. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate. Burial is in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice or the Arthritis Foundation.

Robert E. Cox

Died 21-07-1982. Services for Robert E. Cox, 49, of 409 Minard, Jerseyville were conducted Friday morning at Jacoby Bros. Funeral Home by the Rev. John Wilson with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. His death occurred at 8:12 a.m. July 21 at Christian Hospital Northeast, St. Louis. He was born in Wood River Township, Oct. 31, 1932,a son of John W. and Myrtle Sauls Cox and was an inspector at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

His survivors are his wife, the former Helen Haushalter whom he married March 22,1952 at Peoria; one son, Johnnie Cox of Jerseyville; three daughters, Beverly Cox of Jerseyville, Tina and Teresa, both at home; two grandchildren; parents; and one brother, Harold Cox of Alton. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. The American Cancer Society is the memorial.

Spencer Cox

Died 22-04-1954. Spencer Cox, 80, father of John W. Cox of Jerseyville and Mrs. Beatrice of Jerseyville and Mrs. Beatrice V. Davis of Dow, died Thursday April 22, at the Mather Home for the Aged in Alton where he had been for the past three years. Mr. Cox, a native of Posey County, Indiana, had resided nearly all of his life in Saline County.

Surviving him in addition to his son and daughter residing in Jersey County are his widow, Mrs. Elvira Cox of Rawleigh, another son, letuc Harold of Hartford, one brothers and one sister. He also leaves ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral rites were hld Saturday morning, April 24, at the Streeper Home in Alton and the body was taken to Omaha, Illinois, for burial in Palestine Cemetery.

Mrs Mamie Timpe

Died 29-05-1982 The funeral of Mamie Timpe, 82, who died at 12:25 pm May 29 at Jersey Care Center, was conducted at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Born in Fieldon, she was the daughter of the late Thomas & Annie (Warner) Wollenweber. She was a cook for 14 years at the Illinois school for the deaf in Jacksonville, retiring in 1968. She married Lionel Timpe who died in 1969.

She is survived by 2 Daughters, Imogene Theobald of Gillespie and Edith Schofield of Carrollton; 1 son, Arnold Freer of Godfrey; 5 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren, 2g-g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Florence Wagner of Carrollton and Tillie Camerer of Eldred; and 1 brother, Tom Wollenweber of Eldred. The Rev. William Schmidt officiated and burial was in Carrollton city cemetery. Our Redeemer Lutheran church in Carrollton has been named as a memorial.

Mrs. Ruth Audrey Russell

Ruth Audrey Russell, 80, entered into her heavenly home at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006, with her family at her side. The daughter of Joseph Otto and Mary Kate (Freand) Dunham, she was born March 31, 1926, in Fieldon. She married John W. Russell on May 18, 1946. He died Aug. 20, 1999. A member of the Grace Community Baptist Church in Jerseyville, she worked for the Jerseyville Shoe Factory.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John Gregory and Nyla Russell of Havre, Mont.; a granddaughter and her husband, Charise and Adam Oser of Erie, Pa.; a grandson, John Gregory Russell Jr.; a great-grandson, Colton Oser, and a great-granddaughter, Allyson Oser, both of Erie; and a sister, Marjorie M. Green of Peyson, Ariz. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nina Green, Lillie Mundy and Imogene Burch; four brothers, Edward, Lester, Robert and Otis Dunham; and a great-granddaughter, Jaden Oser.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Robert McNutt officiating. Burial will follow in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Community Baptist Church or a hospice of one's choice. Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements. Mike Vinyard

Mr. Mike Vinyard, 80, of Hogansville, died Monday, February 24, 2014, at West Georgia Medical Center. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m..Wednesday, February 26, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend S. T. Janney and the Reverend James Calhoun will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening. Mr. Vinyard was born October 17, 1933, in Carrollton, Illinois, son of the late Archie Ivan Vinyard and Nora Kane Vinyard. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served in the air assault special forces battalion. He served as a lieutenant in the traffic division of the Newnan Police Department, was employed as a heavy equipment operator for a number of years and then assisted his wife in the operation of Ann Vinyard Florist for 35 years. A resident of Hogansville since 1976, he was Baptist by faith, was a Shriner, and served as squadron commander for the Civil Air Patrol at LaGrange-Callaway Airport for two years. Survivors include his wife, Ann Vinyard of Hogansville; sons, Mark Vinyard of LaGrange and Michael Vinyard and his wife, Mandana of Tarzana, CA; brother, Earl Vinyard of Pittsfield, IL; and grandchildren, Michael Vinyard, Nicholas Vinyard, Caitlin Vinyard, Dallas Vinyard, Denver Vinyard and Morgan Vinyard. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard F. Vinyard

VINYARD, Died 25-01-1981. The funeral of Leonard F. Vinyard, 50, of 409 McGill St., Jerseyville will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the Church of Christ with the Rev. Boyd Goodson officiating. Burial will be in the Carrollton city cemetery. He died at 2:33 pm January 25 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. Born in Carrollton, he was a son of Archie and Nora (Kane) Vinyard. His survivors are his wife, the former Mary Stocks; father; 4 brothers, William, Independence, Missouri, Thomas, Carrollton, Earl, Eldred and Mike, Hogansville, Georgia; 2 sisters Rosella Kraushaar and Melba Isringhausen of Jerseyville. Visitation from 4-9 pm Monday at Jacoby Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary F. Vinyard

VINYARD, Died 07-03-1986. Mary F. Vinyard, 70, of Jerseyville, died March 7 at St. Luke's west in St. Louis County. She was born November 15, 1915, to the Late Robert and Anna (Whitlock) Stocks. She married Leonard F. Vinyard, and he died January 25, 1981. Survivors include her brother, Robert Stocks of Jerseyville. Visitation was March 10 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was March 10 at the Funeral Home with Charles Reiser officiating. Burial was in Carrollton city cemetery.

Drake Michael Fleming

Drake Michael Fleming, 22, beloved son of Brian and Amber (Crews) Fleming, died unexpectedly at 10:56 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 2, 1992, in Alton. Drake was a diesel mechanic for Power Systems. He liked to hunt and his dog Roxy went everywhere with him. Along with his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Don (Ginny) Delp of Edwardsville, Bob Fleming of Godfrey, Gloria (Dale) Winchester of Godfrey, and Patty Etherton of Pomona, Ill., a brother, Eric Fleming of Grafton, two sisters, Carlie Fleming of Grafton and Genna Fleming of Grafton. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, numerous cousins and his closest friend, Daniel Lemasters of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Donnie Etherton, Donna Etherton and David Crews. Visitation will be from noon until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the 5A's Animal Shelter.

William Dean Krueger

On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, we lost a great man, when William Dean Krueger (Bil) died in his sleep at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. A memory of life gathering will be held on Saturday (September 26, 2015) from 4-6pm at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois with a time of sharing fond memories of Bil at 6pm. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois is in charge of arrangements. He was born in Normal, Illinois on February 6,1957. He is survived by his parents, Leta E. Hamm, of Fort Myers, Florida and Peter W, Krueger of Normal, Illinois, a brother, Daniel L. Krueger, also from Normal, Illinois, long time girl friend, Adrian Howley of Fort Myers, Florida, plus many loving cousins, aunts and uncles. All of his life, Bil loved animals, especially cats, and usually had one or more. As a youth, Bil was athletic and especially loved running and throwing a ball. He graduated from University High School in Normal, Illinois. He attended Illinois State University and Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. Portland, Oregon was his favorite place to live. He then moved to Florida where he worked for seventeen years for the Lee County Library System. Bil's sense of humor made him so much fun to be with. He cherished his family and friends. He was the most loyal friend a person could have and had a knack of appreciating the good in people. He was a handsome man with the friendliest blue eyes. Music was important to Bil, especially the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the blues and more. He enjoyed playing the guitar. He was a good friend, a kind hearted man who was easy to respect and love. He taught us empathy and helped us to understand others. He will forever be missed.
