He lived in Florida and and died in Belleview, FL. He was in the U. S. Military Service and was a World War II Veteran. He was married to Ida Mae Pickett (they had 2 children, Joyce Ann Westfall and Terry Marshall Westfall), and later Lonnie married Flossy Waters (they had 2 children Debra Sue "Debbie" Westfall and Becky Westfall). Lonnie Marshall Westfall Jr.'s 1st wife Ida Mae Pickett was a daughter of Leo Laverne and Dorothy (Ford) Westfall Pickett and the granddaughter of Edward E. Pickett (1870-1938) and Margaret (Kelley) Pickett (1878-1908). She was the great granddaughter of Charles William Pickett born about 1830 and Emeline (Gowin) Pickett (1838-1922). Emeline (Gowin) Pickett was a granddaughter of James Alexander Gowin and Rebecca Adams Gowin who were residents of Virginia about 1793 when their son, Nathaniel Gowin was born. Their son Nathaniel “Nathan” Gowin was born about 1794 in Virginia. It has been suggested that he was born in Rockingham County. On July 28, 1813, he was married in Roane County, Tennessee to Sabra Midgett, daughter of George Midgett and his first wife, Sabra Burrus. Sabra [pension file shows Sabrina] Midgett Gowin was born about 1795 at Cape Hatteras in Dare County, North Carolina. “Nathan Goens” enlisted in Capt. Joseph Goodsen’s company of Tennessee militia in the War of 1812, according to “War of 1812 Pensioners” by Virgil D. White. He received Survivor’s Certificate No. 1382 and a bounty land warrant. In 1817, when Nathaniel Gowin became 21, he was listed in the tax list of Grainger County, Tennessee adjoining “John Going.” Nathaniel Gowin paid taxes in this county from 1816 to 1819. In 1820, he was on the census roll of Wilson County, Tennessee and remained there at least until 1826 when he and “Shadrack Gains” appeared on the tax roll. By 1830, he had returned to Grainger County. He appeared there in the 1830 and 1831 tax rolls, farming 90 acres previously rendered by John Gowin. A land grant may have prompted his move to Jersey County, Illinois. He was enumerated there in the 1840 census. Sabra Midgett Gowin died August 20, 1860, and he was remarried in Jersey County to Sylva Wilcox July 12, 1862. Nathaniel Gowin died March 23, 1879 in Grafton Precinct and was buried in Otterville, Illinois in Jersey County. Sylva Wilcox Gowin died about 1898 in Virden, Illinois. Phipps, who was 38 years old, in Jersey County, Illinois. ---- The Decatur Republican, Decatur, IL, Thurs., 29 Mar 1883, p. 2: The Jerseyville, Ill. Murder Case. - JERSEYVILLE, ILL., March 29. – The trial of Richard Milford for the murder of Lewis N. Phipps commenced in the Circuit Court in this city Tuesday and was closed yesterday. The jury, after being out one hour, brought in a verdict of not guilty. The deceased was 38 years of age, and the accused only 15. The homicide occurred February 2, 1882, at Pleasant Grove School House, in this county. Phipps was interested in a Sunday-school, and had put down $1 for Henry Milford, an older brother upon a subscription paper to purchase books, and that morning dunned him for the money, calling him hard names and threatening to whip him if he did not pay him immediately. Later in the day Phipps, passing the school-house where the Milford boys were out at recess, assaulted the editor with a whip, abusing and kicking him, when Richard, who was whittling, rushed upon Phipps with his knife and stabbed him in the heart, killing him almost instantly. A. A. Goodrich was the Prosecuting Attorney and young Milford was defended by Wm. Brown, of Jacksonville. Within one year Jersey County jurors have in two cases refused to inflict the death penalty [on? or of?] any other whatever, and the unfortunate young men who fail to escape an indictment by the Grand Jury here are not anxious for a change of venue.) ----------------- (1aaa) Violet (Boomer) Phipps Fraley and her 1st husband Edward L.
