She accounts her longlivety of life and her exceptional present good health to the simple life and living up to those ideals of purity of mind, body and soul, simple food and plenty of work. After being confirmed in a German Lutheran Church in Germany at the age of fourteen, she worked for a righ landlord, receiving as her yearly salary $10 in money, two pounds of wool and two bushels of potatoes. Potatoes being their main food and one person could eat as many as ten potatoes with a pound of lark at a meal. Potato and milk soup was also on their daily menu. All her woolen and linen clothes were woven by herself. Tea and coffee were a luxury and could only be had on holidays. At the age of 27 she was married to F. H. Loellke, a millwright, and at 33 came to this country with her two sons, Otto and Frank, ages 4 and 2 respectively. Joseph Strassio was the shoe cobbler, John Krause owned a harness shop and Messrs. Jim and Will Eads owned a general merchandise store. It is surprising to know that the population of Fieldon was between four and five hundred at that time. The good horn of plenty was spread on a large and beautifully decorated table, seating all her children and their wives and husbands. Her little 5 year old great grandson, Robert Henry Harms, of Alton broke the fasting by returning thanks, blessing the good food and wonderfully sweet great grandmother, that she may continue to receive that strong magnetic force of love and harmony from each member of her large family that will keep her on a plane of good health and strong mentality for many years to come. Fleming Buys Farmers Elevator - P. J. Fleming has purchased the Farmers Elevator from Standard-Tilton Milling Co. Mr Fleming is an extensive farmer and grain raiser himself. Last year he harvested on his own land about two thousand bushels of wheat, and as he is a close student of market conditions, he held his wheat and has most of it yet. His advice to farmers on market tendencies has proven valuable. Many of his friends relying on his advice, held their grain and did not sell at the low price last summer, and are still holding it. The elevator will be improved in many respects, and Mr. Andrew Schreiber will remain in charge and have full control. The Farmers Elevator will have at all times a full line of the best brands of flour and feed of all kinds to suit the public need.)

In June 2015, she was designated as a Woman of Distinction by Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, Bishop of the Springfield Illinois Diocese. She was loving and caring wife and mother who always put her family first. She loved spending time with her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses and great grandchildren. She was fondly known as Grandma Ellie by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of her many acts of love was to make a quilt for each of her children and her grandchildren. In case you are counting, that is 26 handmade quilts. They were usually presented at Christmas time. Her family was the joy of her life. Sundays were always a special day for Mom. After Mass many of her family would gather at her house for milk, coffee and donuts (or on special occasions her famous cinnamon rolls) to catch up on the family news of the week. Since most all of the family is located within a short distance from Mom's house, many would visit during the week and have coffee with her, get her mail or just stop by to talk and see how she was doing. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Over the years, sheattended games at all three ballparks in St Louis to watch her team play. She seldom missed a televised game. She loved reading many books that were checked out from the Jerseyville Public Library. When she was in the care center, family members dropped by daily to check on her and to be with her at her lunch or dinner meal. She was fortunate to have a wonderful person as her roommate. Audrey Allen has not only became a good friend of mom and the family but we also referred to her as Mom's Guardian Angel. Surviving are her seven children; a daughter, Cathy and her companion Henry Steckel. We as a family feel very blessed to have had her in our lives as our gentle loving mother, (grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother) who was beautiful, devout, family-focused, humble, patient, kind-hearted, and selfless; as a mentor, role model, listener, counselor and compassionate friend. She set the bar very high for us. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.
