Raymond High School Stats

As a result of a diligent search by Principal Paul Furchert and his staff, a number of yearbooks are now available. Information from the 1916-year book cast further insight on the early history of Raymond High School. Starting with the year 1916, information, pictures and senior photographs will be added to this web site as these yearbooks are made available and accessed.

From the 1916, 1918, and 1919-year books there are pages dedicated to the Alumni of Raymond High School. These pages lists 49 individuals who graduated from Raymond High School for the years 1912 (six), 1913 (six), 1914 (seven), 1915 (six), 1916 (sixteen), 1917 (eight), and 1918 (twenty-one). A list of these individuals is now available by clicking the button "1912 to 1919". From this source it appears that there have been eighty-eight graduating classes over a period of eighty-eight years, from 1912 to 1999.

Listed in the year books for 1918 and 1919 are the following individuals, recorded as graduates of the class of 1917 and their status:

Lila Cosgrove – Deceased 1918
Harry Currier - Working at the Raymond Club and residing in Raymond.
Clara Jacobson – Training for a nurse in San Francisco, California.
Raymond Lewis – Attending the University of Washington
Evelyn Keeley - Attending C.E. Perry’s Business College in Raymond.
Wilmon Smith - Employed at Camp Lewis.
Thelma Basel - Doing office work at the Bon Marche Department Store in Seattle, WA.
Marvin Coats - Attending the University of Washington.

1916 was the first year that a yearbook or Annual was published and is Volume I. At the present time there is no yearbook available for the year 1917. The yearbook for 1918 is listed as Volume III. This indicates that 1917 would have been Volume II. So, if anyone who reads this knows the whereabouts of a 1917 yearbook, this editor would like to borrow same.

Also from the 1916 year book we learn that the class of 1917 was the first class of freshman to complete all four years of high school in a new building constructed in 1912. That building was located just north of the present day elementary school and was of similar construction as the present JR/SR High School building which was constructed in 1925. This building was severely damaged in an earthquake on April 13,1949 - 7.1 on the Richter scale, Friday the 13th, condemned and then demolished following the construction of the present day elementary school (remodeled several times).

Sports in the 1915/16-school year consisted of Basketball and track. Football, at Raymond High School did not begin until 1921, with the class of 1922.

From the graduating class of 1912, with six students, to the graduating class of 1999, with forty-nine students, 4,202 individuals have graduated from Raymond High School in Raymond Washington. In some years the listing of an individual's did not always mean that that student graduated. The listing of the individual's reflected the student’s status as a senior.

Without the support and encouragement of Superintendent Mitch Denning, the researching of Principal Paul Furchert, his secretary Diane Farrell and staff this information would not be available. Their efforts and hard work is greatly appreciated.
