The Dungeon of the Snake
The idea behind this dungeon is this is where the Ophidians from Ultima
Online come from. When their home was ransacked by adventurers (during Ultima
3), they had nowhere else to go. Since my adventure takes place in the
mainstream Ultima world, and UO is an alternate dimension, this stands to
reason that Ambrosia in Ultima 3 was sent to the UO universe somehow. But
I just couldn't ignore the connection between Ambrosia and UO: The Second Age.
The scribbly letter "S's" represent secret doors; areas of walls that
you can bash through. Don't go past level 6, unless you're ready to
explore Ambrosia and work your way up
another dungeon (specifically, The Perinian
Depths). The path from level 6 to level 7 is a one-way trip. One more thing;
be prepared for poison in this dungeon.
Level 1
- Silver sword, chain mail armor.
- 3 red (poisonous) mushrooms, 3 green (healing) mushrooms.
- Silver snake, with the key to room 4.
- To enter this room, you need the key from the silver snake in room 3.
Level 2
- Green (healing) mushroom.
- Red (poisonous) mushroom.
- 3 snakes.
Level 3
- There are three pressure plates in this room. The left plate
opens the gate in room 3. The right plate closes the gate in room 3.
The middle plate does nothing put play a sound effect.
- 1 silver snake, 2 snakes.
- The gate in this room opens and closes via pressure plates in
room 1.
Level 4
There's nothing on this level but secret walls to bash through.
Level 5
- 3 ophidian warriors.
Level 6
- 1 ophidian warrior, 60 gold pieces, 1 food.
- Here's the one-way trip mentioned in the introduction. If you
pass through the secret wall in the southwest corner of this room,
you can step on a pressure plate that opens the gates. As soon
as you leave this hallway and approach the stairs, the gates slam
shut, leaving only one way to go: down.
- 1 silver snake, 4 snakes. The silver serpent's key in this encounter
is worthless.
- 1 ophidian warrior, 60 gold pieces, 1 food, ophidian key.
Level 7
- 1 ophidian warrior, 60 gold pieces, 1 food.
- 2 ophidian warriors, 120 gold pieces, 2 food.
Level 8
- 1 ophidian guard.
- 1 ophidian king, 2 ophidian guards. You can only access the throne
room with the ophidian key from level 6, room 4, or with Thas'lah's key. Sitting
(moving onto) the king's throne lowers the bridge outside. If Thas'lah from
Ambrosia is with your party, you can talk to the king and suggest Ambrosia as
the new home of the Ophidians.
- A bridge will lower over this river, granting access to the
way out, if you sit on the king's throne in room 2.
