Ahead the Garden Stairs. Aurel built these to solve a problem. How to get down the hill on a spring day, slippery after a rain. He did a wonderful job!

It is cool under the old pear tree and it's branches form a low canopy. They frame the view of the perennial beds beside you. In one of it's branches a chickadee makes its home in an old red birdhouse.

As you leave the Pond Garden you look back briefly and see the garden dressed in purples and pinks. Behind you, the path you took. In front, the stairs..



Raccoons often dig in the paths and under the stairs looking for grubs and other mealtime treats. You aren't likely to see any though, unless they are orphaned and not yet afraid of people, like these little bandits are.

The stairs are planted with bulbs and sedums. In the spring daffodils push between the steps, along with narcissus, they colour the garden yellow.

Tulips line the stairs and pop up in between the steps. They brighten the walk with their clown colours.

Near the end of the summer the silverlace vine that climbs over the arbour at the top of the stairs comes into its' full glory. It runs rampant and often oversteps the confines of the arbour and clambours onto the nearby fence . You head through this riot of white and green and continue..



You have arrived at the back of the house. Here is where I do all the potting up and dividing. My seedlings spend their spring protected from the wind by the shed. They are easily brought indoors if a frost threatens. Past the Garden Shed, and the path leads you on...
