After
leaving Heidelberg I headed east along the Neckar River through Eberbach to
Neckargerach. From there I headed east away from the Neckar towards Mosbach
on one of the worst hills I had to climb the whole trip. This whole area was
pretty hilly. You're either climbing or decending until you get to the Jagst
river. I couldn't find a campground in this area so I found some woods near
Sulzbach. The next morning I got to the Jagst River at the town of Mockmuhl.
This photo was taken just a little while after getting onto the the bike trail
at Mockmuhl. An excellent path.
The next day I headed south along the Romantic Road. The Romantic Road strings
together many medieval towns from Wurzburg from the north through Rothenburg
on down to Augsburg, I believe. This shot was taken near the town of Feuchtwangen
along the Romantic Road. I'm not really sure why someone went to all the trouble
plant trees upside down. That nite I stayed at the campground in Dinkelsbuhl.
The
next morning I did a little exploring around town before continuing south
to Harburg just north of Donauworth on the Danube. My plan had been to go
to Donauworth and continue east on the Danube, but many of the locals I
had met told me about the Altmuhltal River which empties into the Danube
which has a much better bike path than the Danube. So from Harburg I headed
NE for a few hours to Pappenheim where I started on the excellent Altmuhltal
bike path.
The
rest of the day was along quiet but very hilly back roads.
This
was taken just a few km later near Westernhausen.
This
church was right next to the trail outside the town of Mullfingen along the
river. I followed the Jagst River as far as Jagstberg and headed east towards
Rothenburg O.D.Tauber. It was a pretty big climb to get out of the valley
to go east.
I
got to Rothenburg late in the afternoon and put up the tent at a campround
just a couple km north in the town of Detwang at the bottom of the hill that
Rotheburg is perched on. Rothenberg is a beautiful medieval town with lots
of tourists. I can't stress "lots" enough. But it is pretty amazing to see.
This photo is of part of the wall surrounding Rothenburg. I stayed two nights
there.
