As we arrived at Toleak a second time I stopped and helped a visitor fix his stove. Then we slowly walked down the beach and I told Aliye about all the wildlife you could see on a normal day at Toleak.

The Great Blue Heron

These large birds can be found all over Washington's coastlines. This particular one is fishing on a seastack right on the tip of Toleak Point.

Sea Otter

Along the coast line, if you know where to look, you can find the Sea Otter. This furry critter is definatly the cutest of all the wildlife on the coast. They were hunted to near extinction in the early 1900's, but have been re-introduce to Washington's coastline. These critters are protected by the Endangered Species act. All the Sea Otters along the Olympic National Park's coastline are protected by dually by the Marine sanctuary. I was lucky enough to be involved in a Sea Otter survey that took place along the coast this year (2000). I was stationed at Round Point (see my map) and saw up to 81 sea otters at one time. (I can't take credit for this picture)

Deer

Where ever you decide to go on the Olympic Penninsula there are always plenty of deer. This deer is always hanging around on the beach at Toleak Point. I usually see so many deer in a day that I tend to take them forgranted. Next (Page 6)
