The Rock Island Bridge

BNSF Across the Columbia River at Rock Island

The BNSF railroad bridge across the Columbia River near Rock Island was built in the early 1890s as part of the Great Northern Railway. The bridge was later strengthened by adding an outer truss around the original truss. The AMTRAK Empire builder crosses this bridge when travelling between Seattle and Spokane

The photo was taken from a point NE of the bridge in May 2003.
