When the current state route numbering system was first posted in January 1964, SR 209 started at Jct US 2 on the east side of Leavenworth, headed north to Plain, then west to Jct SR 207 at Lake Wenatchee State Park. SR 209 was dropped from the state highway system effective April 1, 1992.
Before 1964, SR 209 was part of SSH 15C.
