US 295 was part of the original US Highway system of 1926. US 295 started at Jct US 410 (now US 12) at Dodge and headed NE via Central Ferry and Dusty to Jct US 195 at Colfax, where US 295 ended. US 295 was dropped from the US highway system in 1967.
When it was dropped from the US highway system, former US 295 was renumbered SR 127. SR 127 from Dusty to Colfax itself was renumbered SR 26 in 1979, extending SR 26 from I-90 Exit 137 at East Vantage to Jct US 195 at Colfax. The original 1920s vintage US 295 bridge across the Snake River at Central Ferry was replaced by the present bridge in 1968. US 295 had originally been part of the Inland Empire Highway, PSH 3.
